The east coast, where the trail starts, is somewhat rugged and wild, but it is this that gives it its appeal. The central part of the trail takes you over some of the country’s highest peaks, while impressive valleys filled with reservoirs dominate the west. The trail is divided in to easy to manage sections so most competent walkers can easily hike the trail.

One of the big attractions of hiking in China is the Huangshan Mountains in eastern China. These mountains known as the ‘yellow mountains’ were originally carved by glaciers and are covered with dense vegetation that provides the perfect habitat for hundreds of wildlife species. Many of the species associated with these mountains are endemic, and the pine trees that grow here are famous for their uniqueness.

Most well known for its classic Chinese scenery, its beautiful sunsets and its rather unusual granite formations, the Huangshan Mountains have often featured in paintings and literature as well as in modern photography. Today the area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is a popular destination for those seeking new material for their artistic ventures and for those wanting to explore the region on foot.
