Enjoy Sicily Come Rain or Shine
Posted: Jan 10, 2014
Sicily is a perfect destination for an exciting and varied holiday for families and offers many activities that appeal to children of all ages. The weather is typically warm sunshine, but even this island paradise gets a few rainy days. In any kind of weather, however, the vast array of activities, gastronomic delights and cultures are conveniently accessible from anywhere in Sicily. Villas are available to rent on every corner of the island.
Mount Etna
In Sicily, villas are well known for their very high standards and spectacular locations. Children of all ages will love the excitement of visiting Italy’s most active volcano, Mount Etna, which is easily accessible by car or bus. Remember to wear sturdy shoes and bring coats for the colder climate near the volcano, however. Everyone will be thrilled by the magnificent views from the cable car on your ride up to the first level, which is 2500m above sea level. There, you can enjoy lunch at the restaurant, explore the gift shop and watch the incredible films of Mount Etna erupting. Be sure to complete the day trip with either a hike to the summit or a jeep ride.
Adventure Parks
After an exciting day trip to Mount Etna it is great to know that you can return to the comforts of your villa in Sicily. Villa accommodation allows you to create your own itinerary and the next day the whole family may be keen to tackle one of the Adventure Parks in the area. Parco Avventura Madonie is well worth a visit to satisfy everyone’s need for action and adventure. But this is not your average park. All the activities are built around the natural beauty of a forest playground and are challenging and thrilling for both adults and children. Your family can explore the woods through obstacle courses, rope-ladders, cable slides, tree climbing, woodland treks, mountain biking, horse riding and even archery.
Rainy Day Activities
There is an abundance of outdoor activities available on the island and many Sicily villas have gorgeous swimming pools, so you can continue to soak up the sun when you are not sightseeing. Sometimes, however, the rain may dare to encroach on even the most perfect sunny holiday destinations. If you do experience a random rainy day, take the family to the Museo del Giocattolo in Palermo. This beautiful museum houses a large collection of toys and waxworks, which will be sure to entertain your children for hours. It is a great opportunity to combine a little history with the excitement of seeing over 600 toys - varying from dolls, trains, horses and cars all in one place.
There is so much to offer families all year round and in all weather conditions in Sicily. Villas are abundantly available throughout the year and it is the perfect place to stay if you are travelling with children or a larger group. While your holiday will mainly be filled with days of warm Mediterranean sunshine, even when the heavens open your family will be able to remain occupied, relaxed and happy.
