Almost every Mercedes model is a thing of beauty and surely, you would have done lot of research before picking up your favorite model. It therefore stands to reason that you invest in good quality time and effort in keeping your Mercedes clean and shiny as new. This is especially important when it comes to the Mercedes wheels because it is one of the most important accessories when it comes to safety and performance of your vehicle.

Using authorized products

There are quite a few products out there that have been approved by the company. It is a good idea to pick up these cleaning products so that you do not end up damaging the paint or component of your car.

The right equipment

If you are attempting to clean your Mercedes Benz wheels by yourself, then you need to invest in the right kind of equipment. For instance, a lot of people state that simple soap and water is more than enough to clean your car’s wheels. In case you are planning to do this, then do ensure:

  • You use mild soap.
  • Stay away from harsh scrubs and brushes that can leave scratch marks on your wheels.
  • Pick up a set of brushes that can help you get into even the innermost wheel barrel for an absolutely thorough cleaning.

Segregate!

This is extremely important when it comes to the water, rags, cleaning mitts and any other material that you use to clean your wheels. It is also good to keep separate buckets – one to clean your wheels and one for the rest of your car. This will eliminate even the faintest possibility of getting brake residue or brake dust on the body of your car.

Brushes

Perhaps the most important component of your cleaning routine will be the brushes that you choose. Invest in a set of brushes that are:

    • Of different lengths so that you can reach every part of your wheel.
    • Made with soft and long bristles.
  • Covered with plastic or rubber padding as far as their handles are concerned so that they will not scratch your wheels.

For instance, a small brush can be used to clean the lug nuts and access the rear portion of the wheel spokes as well.

Read the labels

When you are choosing cleaning products, you should spend time and read the labels to find out what are the ‘ingredients’ of each product and how they work. For instance, some products are meant to be sprayed onto the wheels and left for a specific duration of time. After which, they are simply sprayed off with a high-pressure stream of water.

A water based wheel cleaner is considered safe for use on all types of wheels. But if a product states very clearly that it is meant for chrome wheels then it must be used only for the same and it may not be applicable for clear coated or even bare aluminum wheels. Some products may also need to be diluted in a particular proportion. It therefore becomes extremely important for you to read before you use the products.
