The City of Madina-Ul-Munawarah

Madina-Ulawarah is the second holiest city and is also known as the "City of Prophet (S.A.W.W.) of Allah Almighty has a very sacred place in Islam of Saudi Arabia. This is also known as "City of Radiant" and also Madina-Ul-Nabi (S.A.W.W.). this holy city is situated in in the Hujaaz region, which falls in the western parts of Saudi Arabia. Madina, every year is visited by as many as 3.5 millions of pilgrims every time for Umrah and Hajj, every year. Madina is the holy place, to which the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W.)had fled to, when he was driven out of the Holy city of Makkah. And when the Holy Prophet travelled to this city, he was followed by his followers who also went to this city. Also, there is a lot of significance attached to this Holy city, as this was the last abode of the Holy Prophet, as this was the last religious establishment or base of the Holy Prophet after he had been forced to exile from Makkah. Moreover, this Holy City is the place where Prophet Muhammad is buried. And thus, pilgrims visit this place in hordes.

A quick look at the transportation system in Madina-Ul-Munawarah

For a pilgrim, wanting to travel to Madina, the Holiest of Cities, the most common and ideal way is to arrive in Saudi at the Jeddah Airport and then follow it up by taking a bus to the Madina city. And once the pilgrims have offered their prayers and after a couple of weeks on successfully finishing their holy journey, take the same route back out of the country to their homeland. And in recent times, more so with the International airport there are direct flights from Middle East, but still the most commonly opted routed is via the city of Jeddah and Madina. Though only Muslims can undertake the holy journey, this airport is not only limited to Muslims, but open to even non-Muslims. For the convenience of the pilgrims, luxurious buses are also run to and from Medina, by the Saudi Transportation company. This bus terminal is out of limits for non-Muslims. Even the charges for the bus service are quite cheap. But once inside the city, the pilgrims have to rely on taxi services as there is no other mode of transportation and one would need to catch a cab, whenever and wherever one needs to visit.

Jannat-Ul-Baqi – a famous visit place for pilgrims

There is a huge graveyard that is situated right next to the Masjid (Mosque), and it is named as Jannat-Ul-baqi. It is one place that has huge significance within the Muslim pilgrims. And for the convenience of the pilgrims, the city of Medina has ample hotels. In fact, there are many high and low cost hotels that surround the entire Masjid Nabvi. The hotels are very well equipped and have lobbies, big rooms, which are fully furnished and well equipped, with availability of air conditioners, attached bathrooms and televisions among other amenities.

Also other than this, there are many other places of religious significance like the mountains of the famous Uhad, where the religious battles took place and other plain fields and such. This battlefield is the place where a host of martyrs were buried.

This beautiful city was destructed and destroyed, in the Saudi era and then rebuilt top centre around the Masjid-Ul-Nawabi.
