Kitchen is the busiest and most accident prone areas of the house. Also, in order to eat healthy and nutritious, a kitchen must be organised and sterile. While designing your kitchen, although you consider all the aspects as per your needs and requirements, but interior designing experts suggest, ease of cleanliness and safety should top your priority list. If a new kitchen is up on your cards, consider the following aspects, before you get your plan into action.

Function first: It is a universally accepted framework for designing anything and everything. The purpose of a product should be identified before modelling it. The final appearance of your kitchen is important, agreed! But a closer study needs to be conducted on minute details, such as cooking space, clean counter tops, appropriate flooring, sink materials etc. What appears luxurious and pleasing to the eye, may not necessarily be a quality pick for you.

Better back splash: taking off oil stains, sauce sprinkles and grease dash from sink or stove back splashes, which are painted or decorated with wallpapers, is tedious. You can opt for shimmering stainless steel or mosaic tile back splash as they are impervious to moisture and can be wiped off with ease.

Wise color-play: Preferring dark color counter tops for your kitchen might not be a great idea. Just as a dark car flawlessly endorses scratches and dirt, a dark counter top may flaunt imperfections, comparably. So, stick with neutral colors to create a balance. A grey colored counter top is the best fit.

Pull out shelves: These shelves can put away with the unnecessary hassle and struggle, as they restructure you way of placing kitchen tools. They provide you an easy access to kitchen equipment s and utensils, as and when you indulge in cooking, thus saving time and energy.

Ample storage: Making less or insufficient room for storage is our biggest mistake when it comes to designing our kitchen. Efficient interior designers suggest to make use of every nook and corner for widening the kitchen’s storage, because the more the better! The overhead cabinets should be extended up to the kitchen ceiling. It not only increases storage, but also prevents dust and dirt from accumulating in the gaps. Build ample depository for kitchen gadgets and appliances, to avoid cluttered counter tops.

Marking trash area: Ensure making garbage bins and trash area, an integral part of your kitchen design plan. Build in space for dumping cans or bins, which are easily approachable and cleverly positioned.

Proper lighting: Thoroughly light up your kitchen, especially above counter areas where you prefer to cook and prepare food. Lightnings should not produce glares or dark shades on a work surface, as they can hinder you while cooking. Proper Roofing: Whether you use a shingle for your roof or choose metal roofing, the most important step is, proper construction. A quality roof installation is a must to ensure your roof is working hard for you throughout. While the material on top is aesthetically pleasing, roofing system beneath is also an important functional component of the roof. Roofing felt is used to protect your roof from atmospheric conditions and leakage. Underlayment protects it from wind driven rain. It is must to have a well ventilated roof, so as to balance cool and warm air circulation and maintain a consistent air flow, which otherwise may cause roof cracking. Because shingle roofing repair is convenient and cost effective, eminent designers advice to opt for shingles as a roofing material.

Slip resistant flooring: Use anti slip flooring such as laminate or matte- finished wood or soft glazed ceramic or textured tiles, for safety reasons.

Safety first: Keep plugs, sockets and electrical fittings away from water sources. All electrical receptors should be grounded and should be protected with ground fault circuit breakers, in case there is a power surge or moisture. Keep in mind to never store a fire extinguisher near the stove. Prevent water from getting to fatal heat levels by installing faucets with anti-scald instruments.

Keep this checklist handy while designing your new kitchen or renovating the old one, to eventually land into a safe and user friendly environment.
