Eggs have always been part of breakfasts around the world – whether one preferred to have them boiled, scrambled, fried or poached, not to forget the eternal favourite – the omelette.

What makes this item so perfect for the breakfast meal? Let’s find out.

First of all, eggs fill your stomach fast, so you not only feel full, but remain content for a much longer time. Thus, cravings for a mid-morning snack are also avoided, keeping one’s weight in check.

Then, eggs complement other breakfast staples like cereal and toast.

Thirdly, the protein and fat in the eggs help to maintain one’s energy levels, charging you up for a busy day ahead.

Finally, whole eggs are considered to be amongst the best sources of protein, containing all the essential amino acids required for your body. Despite containing cholesterol, eggs don’t raise your bad cholesterol levels, so you needn’t worry on that score. Then, eggs also help in the development of the brain, enhancing memory and improving eyesight.

When McDonald’s India (West & South) introduced its breakfast menu in Mumbai in 2010, the international menu included eggs, naturally.

A Good Egg: The eggs used in McDonald’s breakfast meals are no plain eggs. They are very good quality eggs from healthy birds. The eggs are first washed, then cleaned, sterilized and coated. The final step ensures that the eggs do not break during transportation and have a greater shelf life.

The Egg McMuffin was created in the year 1972. It started as a breakfast sandwich, was made using a hot egg, cheese, bacon and English muffin. The egg was laid out in a Teflon circle, with the yolk broken and dressed with slices of cheese and grilled bacon, and served open-faced on a toasted and buttered English muffin.

The Egg McMuffin today is as popular as it was when it was first introduced. In India, the sandwich has a steamed egg – tender and moist – served with a slice of cheese in a muffin, specially baked to have a crisp exterior and a soft and tender interior.

The McEgg is a unique combination of a perfectly steamed egg, classic mayonnaise and chopped onion, with a sprinkling of magic masala, and packed in a toasted bun. It’s guaranteed to please every egg lover.
