How To Avoid Acne After Hair Removal

It's almost the weekend and you're ready to get your glow on, but the errant hairs between your brows and 5 o'clock shadow were not on your agenda. As you go to make your hair removal appointment, a pang of anxiety hits you: Are groomed eyebrows really worth the embarrassing breakout afterwards?

Both waxing and threading can clog the pores and cause redness or acne around the area. But what if we told you it's possible to have your cake and eat it too? By following these simple steps, you won't ever need to sacrifice your defined arches for beautiful, healthy skin.

1. Cleanse and Exfoliate

Massage a natural skin cleanser into your skin to wash your face thoroughly beforehand. Otherwise bacteria can get pushed into the skin and clog pores. Exfoliate the areas that will be waxed or threaded, but make sure to use a product that does not contain microbeads as these actually do more harm than good. We always recommend natural products for face care.

2. Baby Powder

This is a useful trick and actually helps decrease the pain of hair removal. Applying baby powder to the hair-removal areas helps the wax to grab the hairs and absorbs excess oil.

3. Avoid Touching

If you opt for threading and need to stretch the skin, make sure your hands have been thoroughly washed beforehand. Do not touch your skin afterwards. The pores are open and sore and susceptible to unwanted bacteria.

4. Aftercare

We suggest you moisturize with oil-free, natural products for skin care. Skin-soothing rinses are perfect for preventing breakouts and promoting fast healing. Ingredients such as Aloe Vera Leaf Extract and Matricaria Extract help with anti-inflammation and reduce irritation. Calendula Flower Extract and Burdock Root Extract are anti-bacterial natural skin cleansers that promote fast healing.

5. Relax!

Try to relax as much as possible after hair removal – read a book, watch TV etc. Going for a post-wax workout is not a good idea as sweat will soak into the open pores and likely cause a breakout.

6. Repeat

The best way for your skin to get used to hair removal is to go regularly. We recommend you go every 4-6 weeks so your skin can get used to the routine and fight off unwanted breakouts. If you wait any longer, it's as if you are going for the first ever time and it is more likely your skin will have a bad reaction.
