Cloud computing and cloud solutions are a great way for active business people to stay connected with data at any time and from anywhere there is an Internet connection, so they can actively collaborate in real-time with others. It’s an inexpensive way to utilize a network of offsite servers for data storage or application usage, without having to worry about installation, maintenance, or software updates. And while you think it may be dangerous to have your information floating around in cyberspace, it’s actually safer because that information is backed up automatically and it can be accessed from other terminals in the event that your laptop is damaged, lost, or stolen.

"The Cloud" is a network of servers that work together to provide a variety of functions. Some store data and some run applications, giving users the opportunity to be connected to the things they need without being physically burdened with carrying all of those things with them. Simply put, it’s computing on the Internet. Which is why cloud solutions are so practical for anyone who needs to access data remotely. Here are four reasons cloud computing can benefit just about anyone:

Cost. With cloud computing, you don’t have to buy all of the necessary hardware to complete the functions you wish to use. All you have to do is plug in to the existing network. Sure, there are fees that some companies charge to utilize some specific applications, but think about all of the money that you don’t need to pay for things like installation, maintenance, physical hardware, etc. And you’ll received automatic software updates, including security updates, so you’ll always be working with the most up-to-date applications, without having to worry about maintaining the system yourself.

Connectivity. Since your applications and/or data are stored in a "virtual" network of servers, you can plug into what you need any time and from anywhere you have access from your desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet. It eliminates the need to carry around physical files, flash drives, or other materials. This is especially important for people who travel for work frequently or who regularly work from home and need to have access to everything they need no matter where they are.

Collaboration. Just as you have greater access to the things you need, you can also provide that same secure access to other people so you can work on documents or projects simultaneously. This helps to reduce duplication of effort, eliminate the potential for people pulling the wrong version of a document or spreadsheet, and speeds up the process so everyone is working in real time.

Catastrophes. Think of what would happen if everything you were working on was only stored on your laptop’s hard drive. Now think about what would happen if you didn’t have access to that laptop for one reason or another. The cloud automatically backs up your materials. So in the event of a disaster, like if your laptop is damaged, lost, or stolen, your data will still be safe and sound. This also means that if you have sensitive data backed up on the cloud instead of on your laptop, that information won’t fall into the wrong hands if the laptop is stolen. More to the point, by using cloud solutions, you can remotely wipe data from a lost laptop to keep the information secure from potential thieves.
