Italy hosts 70% of world heritage and visiting the most important places requests a long period (or several holidays in Italy). If you decide to go to Italy and spend your next holiday there, you have to select some places to visit, because it is not possible to see all at once. In the list you find below, there are some places worthing a visit!

Pienza in Tuscany

Pienza is a real treasure from Siena's Renaissance in the heart of Tuscany. It is in one of the most prominent areas of Italy and one of the most appreciated areas of the region. Pope Pious the Second (from 1459 to 1462) commissioned most of the most impressive buildings you can find in this wonderful city. Among all the architects who worked in Pienza, Bernardo Rossellino deserves an important role. In fact, the Pope called him to conceive the main institutional palaces. Rossellino transformed the small town into a flourishing Renaissance city and a great example of architecture and urban planning in the 1400s. Thanks to the quality of the palaces and the buildings of the city, Pienza is in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list and it is the perfect place to have a relaxing walk. Pienza also belongs to "Parco Artistico, Naturale e Culturale della Val d'Orcia" (Val d’Orcia’s art, nature, culture Park") that works for protecting history and tradition of this area.

A visit to Perugia

one of the most impressive and interesting travel itinerary in Umbria is in Perugia, the main city of the region. It explores many areas where we can find traces of the great work and masterpieces by Pietro di Cristoforo Vannucci (also known as "il Perugino"). We can find many signs of his work in many churches and buildings around the region. He was the most illustrious painter from Umbria and one of the shining lights of the Italian Renaissance. He was born in the enchanting city of Città della Pieve, just some kilometers away from Perugia (1445-1523). He began his studies at Piero della Francesca workshop and then at Verrocchio’s one in Florence, where he lived from 1472 to 1474. In 1478, he painted a fresco dedicated to St Sebastian, in Cerqueto's local church, and it became the major work of his early years. In the late 15th century, between 1481 and 1483, he took part to the works of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, beside some important artists of that period, such as Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Cosimo Rosselli, called on by Pope Sixtus IV. The great art of "Il Perugino" inspired Raphael (who was one of his students), but also a large number of other artists. He created paintings and decorations in the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli at Foligno, but also wonderful frescoes in some ancient buildings of Spello.
