This being the period when all the competitive exams are drawing desperately closer, students would be hooked on to preparation. However, fixing your strategy right is important. Apart from the most sought-after CAT exam, preparation is required for other competitive exams across the session. The more number of tests a candidate gives, he gets more clarity and widens his chance of getting admitted into desirable B-schools.

Instead of concentrating only on one competitive exam, giving 2 or more other addition to it, enhances the confidence of the candidate and performance streak which gets better with every attempt. There might be slight differences in the pattern in comparison to CAT. XAT, for example, has a section on General Awareness, Decision-making and an essay writing section with a time limit of 3.5 hours. Sections like General Awareness require remaining up to date with information that extends up to last 6 months.

The essay writing section requires constant writing practice on important open-ended topics with significant details exhibiting clear comprehension of the topic and arriving at a conclusion that is logical and is well-supported. The essay writing section can set apart a candidate from 100 others by showing him as a well-read candidate and capable of clear expression of views.

The Decision-making section is set to test a candidate’s view of the outside world and making decisions in the real world which is a little bit of logic, common sense, math and data interpretation. The answer should be a clear determinant of a clear course of action that can be adopted to ease decision-making.

The General Awareness Section includes 30 MCQ style questions based on current affairs and general knowledge. They can range from national to international spanning across literature, history, economy, awards and recognitions.

The negative marking may be applied in XAT beyond 13 un-attempted questions. XAT has gained acceptance among 140 B-schools in India and the count is on an increasing spree. The last date for registration is November 30 without late fee and December 11 with late fee. CAT aspirants need to tweak their strategy a little bit to prepare for XAT andNmat [a1] to maximize their scores.
