So you’ve decided on a villa break and selected Menorca? Great choice! While it is not quite as large and busy as the nearby islands, it’s quite the perfect getaway to give you the rest and relaxation you may be craving.

But just because it’s a small island doesn’t mean it limits your options. A villa break in Menorca offers a huge variety of choices when it comes to the way you can spend your holiday.

Here are a few of your options.

The Simple Sun and Sand Holiday

Probably the most popular among the vision of a perfect Mediterranean holiday, this is the perfect island to simply lounge around, soak up the sunlight, and dip in the water when it gets too hot – either your own private pool or the ocean. With a coastline that spans 216 kilometres and more than 80 beautiful beaches (the majority of which are unspoiled), you’ll definitely feel far from the madding crowd here.

Some of the most popular beaches are Son Bou (with the island’s longest beach); Cala Pregondina, which many consider to be among the most beautiful; Binibiquer and Arenal d’en Castell, which are popular for those who don’t want to be far away from the comforts of luxury resorts; and Es Grau, which, because of its shallow sandy shelf is considered the best for those with children.

The Nature Lover’s Holiday

So you want your villa break to be one of communing with nature? Menorca is still the best choice! The island has been declared a Biosphere reserve by the UNESCO since 1993, which is why many of its natural resources remain untouched. In fact there are 19 areas of special interest, along with five parks and reserves – including the natural park of Albufiera des Grau.

Consider orchid hunting with a photography or painting group across the countryside and be enchanted by the beautiful wildflowers like poppies, marigolds, wild roses, rock roses, ragworts, thistles and flowering garlic (they’re really beautiful, just don’t smell them); go on bird watching tours and check off some species from your list; or just walk the amazing cliffs and gorges to see nature in its full glory.

The History and Archaeology Buff's Holiday

If getting a glimpse of the past is your idea of a wonderful villa break, there is no lack of historical sites and architectural attractions all over the island. Mahon and Ciutadella are the best places to start: don’t miss the La Mola fortress on the north side of Mahon harbor, the Fort of San Felipe at the entrance of the port, and the museums near the Mahon market. In Ciutadella, the whole town is a history lesson in itself, but don’t miss the quarries as well as the largest and most amazing necropolis on the island, Cala Morell.
