The food digestion lets us obtain the energy and essential nutrients. The digestion rate differs for each individual, but there are general rules which will help anybody increase the speed and quality of their digestion. Therefore, it will improve your general condition and enhance your health.
1. General changes for general improvements
Improving your general condition is often associated with many side changes you need in order to obtain the desired result. In this case, these changes include increasing your movement, drinking more water and sleeping better. Exercising helps the smooth muscle in the digestive tract to contract. It also decreases the amount of time the food stays in the large intestine. What about sleeping, it is obvious that recharging helps our digestion system work better. However, some studies made by Long Island neurologists show that sleeping on your left side may increase the capability to digest. Being hydrated is also important to prevent constipation and increase the efficiency of dietary fiber.
2. Helpful foods
Some products increase the digestion rate by providing the nutrients our body uses to digest, which is a circle. High-fiber foods are essential to absorb the excessive water into the stool, but the decrease of the water conjunction may lead to constipation in this case. Vegetables, whole-grain products, and fruits are the main representatives of the high-fiber foods. Yogurt is a source of probiotics, which are also important to speed up the digestion by enhancing the population of good bacteria. In addition, it helps you recover after infections faster. Ginger is used to stimulating the release of the enzymes, which helps the stomach muscle to contract.
3. Foods we should avoid
Spicy foods cause the upset of the gastro-intestinal tract, which leads to slowing the digestion and digestive system malfunctions. Unfortunately, red meat is also a reason for our digestive process to slow down. It is rich in fat which is hard to digest. It is also rich in iron, which is great for the hemoglobin level but causes constipation. You shouldn’t cut the red meat consumption at all, but limiting it is a good choice.
4. Eat often and thoroughly
It is great if you have the capability of changing your eating habits to smaller portions more times a day. The optimal number of meals a day is generally 5. Chew your food accurately and consciously, because bigger chunks are harder to process. Eat more whole foods to ease the digestion. Processed foods are rich in preservatives and additives, which takes longer to digest.
