Okay so you are affected with total loss of teeth on your upper and lower jaw, and need help? Did someone tell you about dentures? Well if yes, then you may have already made up your mind to get denture settings. But wait. There are a lot of other things to know before you make the final decision. There are always alternatives which are better. Instead of getting to the dentist of denture implanting, you should therefore read more about the alternatives to dentures, and compare the pros and cons to decide.

What are the alternatives?

The alternatives to dentures are implants. An implant is an artificial setting which acts and looks as an original setting. In case of tooth implants the fake tooth is made of material as hard as real tooth, and it is made to feel and looks like a real one too. The implants are set on the jaw bone. That means incisions or places are made on the jaw bone, and then implant of the tooth is fitted over it.

Once fitted this one lasts for life, and the implant can be taken care of used and felt juts like your normal real teeth. That is why these are getting so much popular as the alternatives to denture practices.

What are the types of implants?

Now when you are implanting a tooth, deep inside the gum and on to the jawbone, then you may choose to either get all defective, old, and affected real teeth removed and get a full implant. Every tooth will be replaced in the mouth with implanted tooth. And if you have only one or a few tooth affected, then you may get those only replaced and implanted. The first one is referred to as the full implant, and the next one is partial implant.

The advantages of implants over dentures

Implants have several advantages over dentures, which is why they are getting more popular worldwide in spite of being initially costly compared to denture fitting.

  • Implants are set directly on the jawbone thus letting them get the hard support of the bone underneath unlike the denture fittings which only are supported by the gum. As a result denture fittings tend to get loose and fittings need to be adjusted every few years with the gum depletion or change of shape of gum due to ageing. But in case of implants the jaw bone directly supporting the implants always keeps them in the right positing and fittings without ever coming into the way of use and comfort.
  • Tooth Implants are easy to maintain. The cleaning process is as simple as the normal brushing and flossing. You don’t need to change your oral hygiene habits as in case of denture fittings which need a thorough cleaning of dentures separately and the mouth separately every day.
  • Tooth implants are kind of permanent, and needs no replacement generally, unlike denture fittings with needs replacement, and repositioning as a recurring expense. You just need to occasionally visit the dentist in case of tooth implants to make sure things are okay.
