Posted: Jan 24, 2014
Paris is the one place almost every single person in the world wants to visit at least once in their lifetime. The mere mention of the city inspires romantic and picturesque images and the amazing things to see and do in this have made it one of the top holiday destinations of the world. In terms of transport, travelling from Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris is very easy on a private shuttle and visitors can get into the city in no time.
Eiffel Tower
You could not possibly say you have seen Paris if you have not been up the Eiffel Tower! This 300 meter tall structure can be seen from any part of the city and is truly an icon. It was completed at the end of the 19th century and was built for the World Exhibition in 1889 - held in celebration of the French Revolution of 1789. Today, the tower stands as an instantly recognisable symbol of the City of Light.
The Louvre
One of the largest and most important museums in the world - and also the place where you can see the famous Mona Lisa - is the Louvre Museum, which was formerly a palace. The priceless art within held within this museum was the private collection of King Francis I, but during the French Revolution the Louvre became a national art museum. With over a million works of art, 35,000 are on display in the three wings of the museum. You'll pass by it on the Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris shuttle, but you must set aside at least a full day to return and explore its hallowed halls.
The Champs-Elysées
The Champs-Elysées, a two kilometre long stretch of road, houses cinemas, theatres, luxury shops and cafes on the western end, and beautiful gardens with magnificent waterfalls on the other. The residence of French Presidents since 1873 is also on this grand old avenue. You can literally spend days wandering around here, discovering the shops, strolling through the gardens and enjoying coffee, French style. It's a true "must visit" place in the city.
Notre Dame
Although Notre Dame de Paris may not the largest cathedral in the world, it is definitely the most famous. This gothic masterpiece of the 12th century stands on a small island in the heart of the city, known as Île de la Cité. This site is the religious centre of Paris with the Celts having their sacred ground here. The Romans built a temple here and a Christian basilica was also built here.
A short shuttle ride will get you from the Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris and you can then enjoy all the sights this beautiful city has to offer. Be sure to spend plenty of time relaxing in the trendy roadside cafes and stay in one of the cosy boutique hotels. Paris is one place you will want to visit again and again…
