2016 was the year of many firsts and experimentations galore. From new vibrant and eclectic hairstyles to the comeback of evergreen ones, it was certainly an exciting year! Here’s an overview of some of the fashion and style statements B-town celebrities made when they let their tresses speak for themselves!

1. Zari French Braid

Why don a simple French Braid when you can do so much more? It is wedding season here in India, which definitely calls for the additional glam factor. This hairstyle is quick and allows you to make an easy braid look like an elegant up-do. Zari refers to a fine tinsel thread, usually available in silver and gold variants. It is the element that adds the extra charm to your everyday braid look.

Simply style your hair a la French braid and then, instead of tying it with a ribbon or a hair tie, use the Zari. While Bollywood fashionista Sonam Kapoor went glam with gold, you can even opt for silver or other metallic shades. About three inches from the ends of your hair, start wrapping the Zari tightly around your hair. Double knot it to secure the hold and you’re done!

2. The Gajra Bun

One of the most traditional hairstyles for Indian women, the Gajra Bun is the quintessential addition to your intricate or simple hairstyle. Garlands add the freshness and the desi touch to anything, which makes this hairstyle a must-know! Simply style your hair into a simple or elaborate bun, accessorize it with a gajra, and you’re ready to step out in style.

South siren Asin really knows how to perfect her look, which you can too now!

3. Chic Twisted Ropes

Deepika Padukone in Tamasha brought on a whole new world of fashion trends to our lives. From her uber-chic outfits to her casual yet elegant hairdos, the lady has sparked many inspirational posts across the nation. This appearance, in particular, sees her sport a twisted rope hairstyle that she chose to pin back.

Easy to do and easier to maintain, this hairstyle can make you feel fancy in an instant. Bonus tip: spray hairspray generously to put an end to flyaways.

4. Braided Chotli

Seen at weddings, runway shows, and at Indo-Western-themed parties, the Chotli Braid is here to stay. Although most prefer to don it the traditional way, you can revamp it by adding this old-fashioned hair accessory to your otherwise modern outfit.

Want to flaunt your fashion and style while retaining the element of Indian-ness? Opt for this quick hairstyle. All you need to do is style your hair into a braid. Although this hairstyle seems custom-made for long hair, there’s a reason why hair extensions exist! So fashion your hair into a simple braid, making sure to not wind it too tight. Thereafter, simply attach the chotli at the very top and bottom of this braid. Secure its position with the help of bobby pins that are spaced 2-3 inches away from each other.

Well, these were four of our favorite hair fashion trends this year. What’s your favorite? Do let us know!
