It can be tough to stay focused when you work from home. A home office provides you more privacy and a distraction-free environment. For some tips on how to decorate it, check out this article.

If you work from the comfort of your own home, you know this already: distractions are productivity killers. A home office can provide plenty of privacy and allow you to be more productive. Depending on your needs and space, you can consider setting up a traditional home office, a library office, or maybe just a corner of a room with a desk. Whatever it is, your home office should be well-lit and comfortable. Here are some decoration tips that will allow you to maximize productivity and work comfortably, below.

Pick a good chair

Like traditional office work, remote workers spend most of their day sitting behind a desk. That’s exactly why an ergonomic and comfortable chair could improve the way you feel after a full day. Purchase one that has a reclining seat back and armrests, and allows you to adjust its height. Also, make sure you find a chair with lumbar support – it can work wonders for your back.

Make sure you have enough light

Lighting is extremely important for any type of office. Your primary focus will be to find a location that supplies plenty of natural lighting. Then – along with overhead lighting – set up a lamp on your desk. Also, set up your desk so that you avoid annoying glare on your monitor from a window or from your lighting.

Make your own inspiration board

Hang an inspiration board above your desk. All you need is a cork board and some drawing pins. You can display photos that inspire you, artwork or lists of task you have to accomplish. Display some inspirational sayings and words of wisdom as well that can get you through tough days.

Pick colors carefully

For your home office, choose color schemes and designs that don’t distract you. If you want to paint the walls, pick yellow; it’s been shown to promote energy and boost moods. If you want a calmer feeling, try a pale green, which will calm you, but not too much.

Use a variety of organizers

If you have a lot of documents to store, get creative. Beside shelves and drawers, use colorful boxes, which can add a little color to your workplace. You can also place some extra ottomans around with built-in storage.

You don’t have to live in a luxury condo with its own built-in, designated home office. If you can’t spare a room for a proper office, a small desk will suffice. Just make sure that you keep it organized and have plenty of light.
