The number of British students heading to the United States of America for university education continues to swell. Most of them also look for sports scholarships opportunities as they dream of studying on the other side of the Atlantic.

Agencies that help these students in applying for scholarships and assess their skills meet different types of athletes. Some of them do not even have a team to play for but they do win scholarships ahead of some more popular candidates. And this is simply because of their extraordinary attitude and hard work.

What makes them stand apart? What are the traits that separate them from other players and eventually help them secure admission to university of their choice? Let’s look into some of these:

They have resolute perseverance

With intensifying competition for seats in American colleges, you need to be prepared for more disappointments than jubilations. But for a determined candidate, the idea is never to give up. If you fail to impress the judges in your first assessment test, go for the second. If the same happens in the second, proceed for the third. Simply sending half-hearted emails to your coaches will not help. To get through the filter you need to make a consistent, quality effort.

They keep the scholarship as their target but don’t plead for it

Asking ‘for’ and asking ‘about’ a scholarship are two different things. And this is not about playing with words.

A successful recruit will as ‘about’ the scholarships. If you are interested in golf scholarship, USA, you need to just ask your coach as to what it takes to win a scholarship from their program. You need to know their expectations and then prove that you are the student who can successfully meet or exceed those expectations. Prove your athletic prowess.

The wrong approach is to ask the coach for a scholarship and then leave it up to them to try and decide if you are eligible. Inspire the coach to recruit you but do not expect them to do everything for you.

They willingly follow instructions

Students who end up winning scholarships can read their coaches questions and answer those questions satisfactorily. Your coaches feel annoyed when instructions given by them are not followed. As an example if they email you a form with detailed instructions on how to fill it up, but you still ask them about something that was already evident by the instructions, they do get frustrated. Your ability to understand instructions will also be questioned here.

Don’t cause the recruitment process to drag on lest this can cause a coach to drop the idea of selecting you.

They have more than one offer for scholarship

With the pleasing traits they display, students who end up winning scholarship often get more than one offer. The UK agencies that help in the evaluation of candidates have several American colleges involved in the recruitment process. And the best of students get best of opportunities.

If you too have traits as described above, you may be on your way to a reputable university in the USA.
