It is probably impossible to walk into a house and not find a mirror somewhere inside. A mirror is often used in bathrooms for obvious reasons such as grooming our hair, shaving, and the overall maintenance of a decent appearance. Many mirrors around the house are used for similar purposes, however, mirrors aren't purchased for the sole purpose of being used. Adding a framed mirror to a living room wall, for example, automatically adds to its sophistication while giving the illusion of a more spacious room.

Bathroom mirror framing is one of the most common framings done. Adding a decorative trim around your plain bathroom mirror will automatically give your bathroom an updated look. Mirror framings can be done with several easy steps starting with picking the trim of choice. Our website, www.mirrorupgrade.com, offers a wide selection of trims, which you can pick from based on your specific taste and needs. It is recommended to look at the other parts and aspects of the room where the mirror is and try to fit the style of the trim with the overall look. Taking correct measurements is one of the most crucial steps in the mirror framing process.

DIY mirror framing steps:

  1. Prepare your materials, tools, and a large enough work surface.
  2. As mentioned previously, the most important step in mirror framing is to determine the trim style and positioning to acquire the correct measurements.
  3. Use measurements and cut the Medium-density fiberboard accordingly.
  4. Paint the back of your trim with the paint color of choice. (The back will be reflected in the mirror so it is important not to omit this step!)
  5. Paint the front of the trim and wait a couple of hours for the paint to dry completely.
  6. Sand the trim with extra-fine sandpaper.
  7. Glue the lengths of the top frame together with strong wood glue, then press firmly together and let dry.
  8. Apply caulk on the seam joints; Smooth it out and let dry.
  9. Paint trim again.
  10. Using strong adhesive, install top frame and secure firmly with tape.
  11. Repeat steps 4 to 10 for each side.
  12. After installing all four sides, make sure all corners meet properly and that the frame is properly aligned. Make any necessary adjustments before the adhesive dries.
  13. Check if any joints need a touch up with caulk. If so, apply caulk and let dry for an hour before painting final coat!
