Potential Health Issues Caused by Mold Growth in Your Home
Posted: Apr 19, 2017
Health issues brought by mold are common, yet reducing the amount of mold in your home can help alleviate the symptoms. Mold is commonly found in homes and can cause various health problems. How might you tell if mold is the cause?
"Mold likes wet places, and it produces spores that may get in the air," said a spokesperson for Capital City Construction & Remediation, a mold removal company. "Many health issues brought by mold come from spores which can get into your lungs. In most cases, you will notice that your nose abruptly becomes congested when you walk into certain rooms in the house. This is a sign that you might have mold lurking somewhere and it is getting into your respiratory system."
Additional health problems caused by mold include shortness of breath, coughing, stuffiness, runny nose and wheezing. These are signs that you have a mold allergy. You may encounter asthma-like symptoms, even if you do not have asthma. In addition to that, mold can cause a headache, skin rash or fever.
Mold also develops on spoiled foods like vegetables, bread, and organic products. If you have moldy food, you should toss it out. There are a limited number of lasting health issues caused by mold. However, if you have asthma, a headache, nausea or constant sinus problems, mold may be a problem for you.
Molds aggravate sinuses and asthma and can lead to attack. When a child with asthma is around mold, there could be long-lasting consequences, including breathing problems when they become adults. The symptoms of mold allergies are similar to sinus infections, so it is hard to determine the exact cause of your symptoms.
"Despite the fact that mold is not horribly dangerous, health issues brought by mold can be inconvenient and painful. It is recommended that you attempt to keep your home as free from mold as possible," said a spokesperson for Corporate Mechanical, an HVAC contractor.
Almost every house has mold. In most cases, it is black and develops around your shower or in your kitchen. In case you see this kind of mold, clean it immediately. Basic soap and water will usually work to remove it.
If you have mold allergy symptoms, it may be a sign that there is mold concealed somewhere in your house, such as under your carpets, in your walls, in crawl spaces, or under tables or chairs. In such cases, it is recommended that you contact a mold removal expert.
