The Perfect Ski Kit - Things to Pack for a Day Skiing Off-Piste
Posted: Feb 12, 2014
Morzine is one of the most popular ski resorts in France, and with good reason. It boasts a huge number of slopes that are suitable for all ability levels; it's in a convenient location; and there is plenty to do off the slopes as well to keep everyone happy for a couple of weeks.
If you are heading here with the idea of going skiing off-piste, you're in luck. This is a great resort for off-piste skiing, with many areas to choose from. Morzine snow conditions are usually excellent, but going off-piste can always be unpredictable. If you are planning to head out for the day it is a good idea to know what to take with you. Here are a few items to keep in mind when you go out for a day of off-piste action.
High-Energy Food
Off-piste skiing is hard work, especially when you go out for an entire day. Take some high-energy snacks with you as well as plenty of drinks, which could include a hot drink. Take enough to last you more than a day, and in the unlikely event you get stranded or lost, at least you'll be well prepared.
Tent and Survival Gear
More than likely nothing will go wrong, but even in excellent Morzine snow conditions going off-piste can be unpredictable. In the event that you get stuck or lost, you will need to be prepared. It is a good idea to take enough equipment with you to survive a night or two - this means a sleeping bag and tent, as well as survival gear like a knife and a fire-starting kit.
Layered Clothing
Whatever the Morzine snow conditions are like, the weather can change considerably at any time and at short notice. Be prepared by wearing a number of layers so that you can adapt your clothing accordingly.
First Aid Equipment
Always have someone in the party take a basic first-aid kit along for the day. It won't take up too much room but can be invaluable should something unexpected occur.
Don't Get Lost
A map, GPS unit and radio are well worth taking with you to avoid getting lost. Getting lost can be a serious danger if you do not know the area, so always go prepared – better still, travel with a local guide.
Prepare Properly for Going Off-Piste
This is a spectacular destination for a ski holiday - not only are the Morzine snow conditions fantastic on the slopes, but you will also have a great selection of off-piste options to choose from. Just keep in mind that you should always be prepared. Pack the above things in your kit and enjoy yourself knowing that you are fully prepared for the adventure ahead.
