AIIMS vs NEET

NEET is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education and the AIIMS MBBS entrance examination is conducted by All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Both the exam are compared across the following parameters:

1. Exam schedule:

NEET exam is conducted in the month of May. It is for a duration of 3 hours. A single paper with 180 objective multiple choice questions would be conducted. Each question would have 4 options and a correct answer.

The AIIMS exam is usually held in the month of May and June. It is held in two shifts - morning 9 am- 12.30 pm and the afternoon shift from 3-6.30 pm.

Every question carries 1 mark and 1/3 of the marks would be deducted for a wrong answer.

About 8.8% of the total students always clear through in NEET while about 0.67% clear in AIIMS exam.

NEET exam would be conducted in the offline mode. It is a pen paper based test, and the syllabus would be as per the specification of Medical Council of India.

AIIMS is conducted in an online mode, being a Computer based test. There is no fixed syllabus prescribed for AIIMS exam for the MBBS course.

NEET is a national level entrance test that is conducted for approximately 52,305 MBBS and BDS seats across the country.

As per the directive issued by the Supreme court, NEET has replaced AIPMT as well as State Level Entrance examination and that would be the sole determinant of getting admissions in State and Private Medical colleges.

NEET has only subjects from Science like - Physics, Chemistry, and Zoology.

AIIMS includes subjects from Science coupled with Current affairs and aptitude.

NEET usually is based on memory while AIIMS is based on Conceptual application. The number of seats for AIIMS is limited in comparison to Neet which is conducted across all of India.

For NEET, the NCERT Material of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology would have to be prepared. For all of these subjects, grasp the theory and try to practice and implement the concept across various sections.

You can have a preparatory material to understand concepts but NCERT reading cannot be given up as that has the basic description of all the concepts that would come up in the exam.
