AIIMS is the most prestigious medical college in India. Every MBBS aspirant wishes to get a seat into this elite institution. But, there are limited seats available in AIIMS. Hence, the MBBS aspirants look forward to taking admission in other best Medical Colleges in India on the basis of NEET exam. Due to lack of time and the length of the syllabus, it is impossible to prepare separately for AIIMS and NEET. Therefore, the aspirant has to prepare them both simultaneously. Although the syllabus of both AIIMS and NEET for the major subjects are same, but the exam pattern of both the exams differs which can become the basis of final selection in AIIMS. In this article, the basic differences between the AIIMS exam and NEET exam are explained which will help the students to prepare accordingly and make the strategy as per the requirements.

AIIMS vs NEET Paper Pattern:

In Aiims exam, 200 questions are asked which need to be completed in the time frame of Three Hours and Thirty Minutes while in NEET exam 180 questions are asked which need to be completed in the time frame of Three Hours. In AIIMS exam, 60 questions are asked from the Physics section, 60 questions are asked from Chemistry section, 60 questions are asked from Biology section, and 20 questions are asked from the General Knowledge section. In NEET exam, 45 questions are asked from Physics section, 45 questions are asked from Chemistry section, and 90 questions are asked from Biology sections. It is clear from the weightage given to the subjects in both the exams that the Biology is given more importance in the NEET exam while Physics, Chemistry and Biology are given equal weightage in the AIIMS exam. Also, GK is missing in the NEET exam while it is there is the AIIMS exam. The aspirants ignore the GK section completely and thus sometimes miss the seat in AIIMS just by a margin. GK can be a deciding factor in selection in AIIMS. Therefore, it is advisable to give some time to GK just before the AIIMS exam.

AIIMS vs NEET Syllabus:

Although the syllabus of both the exams for Physics, Chemistry and Biology is broadly same. But, still, there are some minor differences that need to be taken into care while preparing for both the exams. Communication Systems in Physics and Morphology of Earthworm and Frog in Biology are there in the syllabus of AIIMS but are not included in the NEET syllabus. In AIIMS exam, the topics like Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory of Gases, Waves, Modern Physics, Communications, Heat Transfer, SHM, Optics and Semiconductors are given more importance than Mechanics and Electromagnetism which is more prominent in NEET exam.

The most important thing that needs to keep in mind for an MBBS candidate appearing in both the exams is that the negative marking scheme for AIIMS is 33% while for the NEET exam is 25%. The candidate needs to take care while filling the OMR in AIIMS paper because such a huge percentage of negative marking can make a huge difference in selection and rank.
