The hunt for the perfect bridal gown starts with knowing your body shape and understanding what will look good on you. You can buy a hundred bridal magazines and fall in love with numerous gorgeous gowns, but it doesn’t automatically follow that they will be right for you. Rather than buying expensive, ready-made designer gowns, choose bespoke wedding dresses instead. A tailored gown will not only give you a one-of-a-kind look on your special day, but will also accentuate your best features and make you even more stunning. To start the search for your perfect dress there are a few simple pointers to follow, depending on body shape.

Bottom-heavy and Pear-shaped

Bottom-heavy brides need to take the focus away from their bottom half and towards their top half. A strapless ball gown with a classic sweetheart neckline does this trick perfectly. It accentuates the cleavage, and the full skirt hides the bottom completely and even adds the illusion of curves. Off-shoulder bespoke wedding dresses with a flared skirt also add more curves. When it comes to fabric, bottom-heavy brides need to shy away from a sheath style or a lot of draping, as these add volume to already pronounced hips. Go for simpler patterns and add a playful sash to add some "oomph" to the dress.

Top-heavy and Broad Shoulders

Top heavy may refer either to the bust area, or it could also mean having broad shoulders. Ideally, bespoke wedding dresses for top-heavy brides need to create curves and avoid too much focus on the top. You may think that concealing broad shoulders with a sleeved dress does this, but it’s actually the complete opposite. Instead, brides with broad shoulders should opt for a sexy halter-top or one-shouldered gowns. Off-the-shoulder long sleeved styles are also flattering. Meanwhile, for those who want to hide some cleavage and be a little more modest, having a lace illusion neckline is a smart move. The lace covers up the bust area but will still look elegantly sexy.

Lean and Straight

Brides who are lean can have the most fun when it comes to choosing the design of their bespoke wedding dresses. They do, however, need to be careful about selecting a straight, form-fitting dress that won’t give them the curves they want. Those who want to show off their lean physique could still do so, though, by compromising on other elements in the dress. For instance, instead of a straight silhouette, opt for a fit-and-flare style to highlight a tiny waist and give the illusion of full hips. A cinched waist paired with a full skirt does the same trick. For those who have a long torso, one way to minimize this feature is to go for a flowing empire-cut dress. Layered charmeuse or a tulle skirt will also add some curves and create a beautiful silhouette at the same time.
