DevOps has been growing in importance over the last 5 years especially in industries such as BFSI, Healthcare, Hi-Tech etc. From its humble beginnings, it has grown into a standard working pedagogy and today, it has become an indispensable part of the enterprise business strategy. Methodologies in DevOps caters to enterprises of all sizes. Though the concepts that are involved in DevOps are not new, they have created quite a stir throughout the technical community. It facilitates the operations and development engineers to come together in the complete lifecycle of the development process and this includes the design elements right till the production support. DevOps has new trends that can help in understanding the new ways of collaboration between development and operations. Here are few of the trends:

  • Integrating the tools: The growing popularity of DevOps among enterprises has led to an increase in the demand for its tools as well. With a rapid increase in such tools, their integration is getting more challenging. In the coming days, the enterprises that wish to invest in DevOps to reap its benefits will have to adopt the tools best suited to them and build the process around the tools.
  • Container ecosystem: The use of container platforms like AWS ECS, Kubernetes, DCOS, and Docker Datacenter will see an increase in the near future. This will in turn help in gaining stability with application of tools. Containers will be a fitting instrument for deployment since they are designed specifically to facilitate isolated processes which require minimal deployment and runtime overhead.
  • Minimizing downtime: In order to be ahead of the competition in this market, it is critical for enterprises to improve focus on minimizing downtime. DevOps facilitates enterprises to increase rhythm in delivery and quality. According to Gartner’s State of the DevOps Report, major IT organizations adopting DevOps are deploying with about 200% more frequency as compared to the enterprises that are not. Furthermore, the companies that adopt DevOps practices benefit from a 24 times faster recovery time from failure and minimization of downtime.
  • Moving steps earlier in the pipeline: This is one of the many changes brought about by DevOps in the Software Delivery Practices. With this trend that is taking over, the activities that are taken up after deployment, going by the traditional chronology, are pushed up the order in the process. This move is mainly done to get notified of any issues early on in the process. In turn, it helps in reducing costs incurred. We could infer that formats like automated and continuous testing are going to be pushed early on in the cycle.
  • DevOps and Big Data: This is one trend that enterprises need to watch-out for. DevOps and Big Data will combine to provide analytics across the delivery cycle. DevOps tools have been crucial in automating processes as well as configurations in the pipelines. Machine learning with tons of data can help in gleaning insights that can be used in analyzing and predicting failures to identify the points of optimization for your process.

In addition to all these trends, DevOps and Agile culture is going to stay. Companies that empower teams and enjoy a continuous learning environment will achieve most benefits. If you would like to know more about our DevOps Consulting Services, then do leave an inquiry with us.
