Posted: May 15, 2017
5. Visit Broome and Cable Beach
The very popular holiday destination of Broome is a must do to kick off your Kimberley Adventure. Broome was established on the Pearling industry and has become a town full of history with strong aspects of multiculturalism. It is a beautiful gateway to the rest of the Kimberley region, with its enjoyable weather and its tropical island feel. Located slightly out of town is the famous Cable Beach, which stretches for 22km and backs onto the stunning red cliffs of the Kimberley landscape. Whether you’re taking a Camel ride along the beach or experience an unforgettable sunset, Broome and Cable Beach will not disappoint.
4. Gibb River Road
Touring the Gibb River Road is the ultimate Kimberley adventure. This 660km stretch of road cuts through the middle of the Kimberley, putting the best of the region on display. Showcasing large gorges, beautiful waterfalls and relaxing rock pools, it’s a scenic tour that you won’t want to end. An attraction that only just missed out on this list is the amazing Windjana Gorge, though the exciting thing is that you can visit it while touring the Gibb River Road. Known as one of the best spots to see freshwater crocodiles plus the opportunity for incredible walks, Windjana Gorge is a definite stop during your Kimberley adventure tour
3. Bungle Bungle Range
The Bungle Bungle Range, located in the Purnululu about 300km south of Kununurra is one of the most unique rock formations in the world. The dome shaped banded rocks are an incredible sight with a rich history attached. From the air, scenic tours operate to give you the best view of the entire range and the surrounding landscape. With the option to stay at the local Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge, you can explore the national park and the amazing gorges it has on offer.
2. Horizontal Falls
Described as one of the greatest wonders of the natural world, the Horizontal Falls are an unique attraction. A 25m gap within the McLarty Range, allows seawater to travel through due to the tides and as one side builds up at a faster rate a horizontal waterfall like formation occurs. To get a better view of this phenomenon, boat and helicopter tours get extremely close allowing you to experience the natural force of the water. As the tide eventually reverses, tidal whirlpools are created, providing yet another spectacle.
1. Mitchell Falls
Topping this list of Kimberley adventure tours is the Mitchell Falls, which is arguably the most photographed attraction in the Kimberley. The stunning four-tiered waterfall is a majestic sight and sits as an oasis in the remote rugged outback. Mitchell Falls tops the list of Kimberley adventure attractions not only due to its beauty but also the range of things to there and the access you can get. Close by is the awesome Big Mertens Falls which you walk across during a hike up to Mitchell Falls. The scenic helicopter tours give you an aerial view of the waterfalls and the surrounding plateau, as well as the Kimberley coast, not too far away. When planning your next Kimberley adventure, make sure Mitchell Falls is your ‘must do’ list.
