Africa is famed the world over for its safari adventures, and Kenya houses some of the continent’s most precious National Parks, including the famous Maasai Mara National Park, where you can see lions, leopards, cheetah, elephants and rhino. Brightsun Travel has a range of cheap air tickets to Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, so you can access some of the most memorable safari adventures in Africa this holiday.

Maasai Mara Nature Reserve

A 5 hour drive, or a 45 minute flight from Nairobi, is the incredible Maasai Mara Nature Reserve, famous for its vast open grasslands that contain high concentrations of wildlife, including big cats (famously the highest concentration of lions in the world), Maasai giraffes, plus rhino, elephant, wild dog and cheetah. The park borders the famous Serengeti National Park, and is a place where you can experience one of the most spectacular wildlife shows on earth, the Great Migration. During the Great Migration vast herds of wildebeests, gazelles and zebras trek across East Africa in search of rain, attracting visitors from around the globe. Inside the reserve, you can stay in up-market lodges and tented camp accommodation, and strict controls over vehicle numbers means that you can experience nature without the crowds.

Mount Kenya

A visit to Mount Kenya is one of the highlights to a trip to Nairobi, where you can explore breathtaking mountainous landscapes, biodiverse forests and rich cultures. Mount Kenya is Africa's second largest mountain, just 150 kilometres from Nairobi, and a popular rock climbing destination, offering 8 walking and hiking routes to suit even the very beginner. The mountain is surrounded by the Mount Kenya National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and Biosphere Reserve, and with camping allowed anywhere in the park, it’s the perfect spot to immerse yourself in nature. Ethnic groups that live around Mount Kenya believe the mountain to be sacred, including the most well known of Kenya’s tribes, the Maasai, who use the land surrounding the mountain to graze their cattle, and regularly visit the mountain to perform ancient rituals.

Mount Longonot National Park

Not far from the capital, in the Southern Rift Valley, is the incredible Mount Longonot National Park, a dormant volcano offering amazing views over the Rift Valley, with exceptional hiking trails around its crater rim that will take you into the heart of the Kenyan bush. The National Park also provides sanctuary to a range of flora and fauna in its thick forests that line the crater of the mountain. The views here over the Great Rift Valley are often the highlight of a visit. The Rift Valley is famously the only stretch of the Earth’s landscape that is visible from the moon, stretching from Kenya through to Ethiopia. This is a landscape that dates back millions of years, now alive with hundreds of flamingos, wild elephants and big cats, plus the world's largest permanent desert and alkaline lakes.
