How to Get the Edge in Courier Work

Modern courier work makes it easy for people to order whatever they need and have it delivered right to their door. However there are lots of companies to choose from and, while it will usually be the people sending the parcels that choose which company to use, it makes sense for them to select the best.

For you, this means getting the edge and providing a service that is second to none. How can you do this? Let’s look at some ways to achieve it so you can enhance the service you give.

A friendly service

This should go without saying, but some courier work is completed with one eye on the clock and one eye on the road. In this equation the customers hardly figure at all, which is a shame. People tend to share bad news and poor service when they happen, so you need to make sure your company isn’t the culprit. With a dedication to providing courier work with a friendly smile, you can be sure people will remember you for the right reasons.

A more advanced service

Technology is the best way to achieve this. More and more, those undertaking courier work are providing more advanced services, which enable their clients and customers to see more accurately when parcels can be delivered. Quite often this comes down to a much smaller time slot, which can be advised on the day. This is a very customer friendly service, and if you can provide it you will undoubtedly be able to achieve an edge over your rivals.

A reliable service

This is perhaps the most important area of all. It is no good having all the technology in place if you don’t use it to enhance the service you provide. For example, if you say you are going to deliver a parcel to a customer between 10am and 11am, you had better be there in between those times. If you aren’t, they will lose faith in you – especially if it happens more than once. Of course there will be times when a van breaks down or something happens that is outside your control. But even during these times you can endeavour to get in touch with the customer to explain the situation. Most people would be understanding and would remember you for the service you gave, even though the delivery was late.

It is very easy to get things right in this type of work, however it is easy to get things woefully wrong as well. Make sure you fall on the right side and provide a service that will give you the edge on a daily basis.
