People Who Need Serious Consideration Before Inviting on Private Charters
Posted: May 30, 2017
Chartering a boat is the ultimate way to relax, so the last thing you are likely to want is to share the experience with someone who might stifle your good time or put you on edge. If you’re not travelling with someone who you know well from living together, it is important that you consider whether the person will make a good travel companion. Here are just four people that you should give some serious consideration before giving that invite.
Your Parents:
Unless you consider your parents to be great friends, private charters with your mom or dad can be stressful. You may find yourself reverting to a grumpy teenager or needing to justify staying up for another drink. This can be made even more uncomfortable if you need to share a cabin. Such close cohabitation conditions can be a nightmare and could lead to avoiding your parents until next Christmas.
Your In Laws:
In the same way, you may feel a little awkward about a private boat charter with your in laws. Unlike a large cruise or a quick weekend visit, private charters tend to be more intimate affairs, and you may find it difficult to make small talk over breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This can make it difficult and could lead to tension between yourself and your partner. If you do choose to travel with your partner’s family, it may be a good idea to consider some ground rules before you sail.
New Friends:
If you are planning on sharing a cabin or a small private boat charter, it is rarely a good plan to do this with someone you don’t know well. You may find that you have very different habits, travel styles, and routines. While you may appear to have a lot in common during your spin class or at the footie match, spending a week sleeping, eating and socialising together can put a strain on a new friendship. You may even find that you learn things you really didn’t want to know, such as where they like to leave their underwear.
Co-workers:
Mixing work with pleasure may seem like a good idea initially. After all, you have a great time with your colleague on a night out or company party. However, remember that sometimes witnessing your co-workers away from work can be a little strange. There is always that one person who has a little too much to drink at the office party and ends up embarrassed. Now imagine that on a private boat charter. There is almost literally nowhere to hide if someone, including you, gets a little carried away with the festivities. Remember that you will need to face your co-worker when the trip ends in your workplace day after day.
