Many visitors to the city arrive into the centre on Geneva airport transfers. Designed to make your arrival as stress-free as possible, Geneva airport transfers are convenient, comfortable and efficient. This lovely city is a place that many people simply pass through on their way to the French or Swiss Alps, but for those who do take the time to stay a while, there is much to be discovered - especially if you enjoy shopping.

Where to Shop and What to Buy

This city is a shopaholic’s paradise and, while it may be small in size, it is home to one of the most famous shopping streets in the world. The Rue du Rhone, rivals London, New York and Paris for class, style and fashion; close to the lake, this street is home to world famous fashion brands as well as exclusive Swiss watch and jewellery stores. The city is well known for specialising in the more discerning shopping options and the choice is huge - even if you are only window-shopping there is so much to see.

Probably the most famous Swiss accessory is the watch and, despite being an industry founded over 400 years ago, Switzerland is still one of the most acclaimed watch producers in the world. Top brand stores, including Patek Phillipe, Frank Muller, Swatch and Omega are found in the city centre and are proud to show-off their top class designs and expert craftsmanship.

Switzerland is also justly famous for its exquisite chocolate. With enormous selections of fine Swiss chocolates available in many grocery stores, as well as speciality shops, there is no shortage of choice. High quality truffles and chocolate stuffed pastries and fruits are par for the course in this chocolate loving city, and a box of Swiss chocolates makes a great gift to take home.

Clothing is a big industry here too and there are some fantastic boutiques throughout the city. Controversially, smoking is still accepted in this city, and Havana cigars, unique lighters, and antique pipes make unusual souvenirs for those who still enjoy the tobacco culture. Leather from Italy is sold and handbags are the biggest sellers here. Art dealers, too, will have a great time in this eclectic city, with the flea market and Old Town offering some great antique shops and stalls selling fine examples of 19th century European crafts. The Old Town is a great place to explore for an afternoon, with its winding streets, unusual shops and vibrant café culture.

It is worth remembering that shops here often close for two hours from midday for lunch. Most close at around 7pm in the evening, although by this time you are bound to be ready for a break.

No matter what your taste in retail, you can be sure that the bags you load on to your Geneva airport transfers will be a lot heavier than when you arrived!
