You’ve taken the first step to sign up to your boxing classes – get ready for a fun and energetic

experience! Boxing provides so many benefits including reduced stress, improved cardio fitness and

stronger muscles. More and more people are giving boxing classes a try thanks to the full body

workout it provides in a highly motivating environment.

If you’ve never taken a boxing class before, there are a few things you might want to know before

you give your first class a go.

You should arrive early

If you get to class fifteen to twenty minutes early, it will give you a chance to have a chat to your

trainer and let them know that it’s your first time. They’ll be able to answer any questions you have

and get you prepared for the class ahead. They’ll also give you a hand with your wraps and gloves

which will give you the chance to watch how to properly do the wraps yourself for future classes.

Your gym will generally provide boxing gloves but you’ll need to provide your own wraps.

You don’t need to feel intimidated

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never put on a pair of gloves before in your life, you can still join in with

boxing classes. It’s all about a fun way to build up your fitness and you’re not competing with

anyone. Your boxing instructor will be able to guide you through your first class and you’ll be in a

non-judgemental, supportive environment.

You can wear whatever makes you comfortable

There’s no strict dress code for boxing class so just wear whatever makes you comfortable. Most

people opt for something that allows them to move around freely due to the active nature of the

class. Don’t wear anything that you’re not happy to have covered in sweat!

You’ll be sore afterwards

If this is your first boxing class, you can expect to have some sore muscles in the following couple of

days and this doesn’t just apply to your arms. Boxing is a full body workout which means you’re

working all of your muscle groups so you’ll be sore in places you didn’t expect. Remember not to

push yourself too hard – your instructor will provide modifications for beginners and you can take a

break when you need to.

You’ll have fun

The main thing you need to know is that you won’t regret signing up for your boxing class. It’s a lot

of fun and a great way to meet new people. Chances are you’ll walk out of your class feeling sweaty

but empowered – not a bad end to a workout!
