Contact Brightsun Travel about cheap flights to Dar Es Salaam and go on your own safari adventure this holiday.

Serengeti National Park

The vast plains of the Serengeti, which span across Tanzania and Kenya, is perhaps one of the most iconic landscapes of East Africa, housing threatened and endangered wildlife, including rhino, elephant, wild dog and cheetah, offering visitors a safari adventure of a lifetime. The Serengeti National Park showcases one of the most spectacular wildlife shows on earth, and one of the most important natural events in the world, the Great Migration, which takes place every year.

The Great Migration

Every year the Serengeti experiences a wildlife extravaganza, the Great Migration. During the Great Migration vast herds of wildebeests, gazelles and zebras trek across East Africa in search of rain, making it one of the best times of the year to spot Africa’s iconic wildlife. The natural event attracts visitors from around the globe wanting to spot a range of the world’s most threatened and endangered wildlife in their natural habitat, and is one of the true tourist draw cards of Africa.

Kilimanjaro National Park

Kilimanjaro National Park is one of the country’s most popular parks with visitors, who are lured by its wide variety of mammals, including buffalos, elephants, monkeys and leopards. Kilimanjaro National Park is also a major climbing destination in Africa. The park famously contains Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, rising 4900 metres above sea level, and the highest free standing mountain in the world, emerging from lush rainforests and highlands that local Maasai tribes call home.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The vast Ngorongoro Crater in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the world’s best places to spot a range of mammals in their natural habitat, including hippos, flamingos, elephants, hyena, lions, as well as the critically endangered black rhino. Wildlife here are attracted by the crater’s permanent water springs, streams, lakes and rivers. Here you can explore open grasslands, swamps and forests, all lining the crater floor, and spot large numbers of zebras, wilder beast and buffaloes that migrate to the crater annually.

When to go

High season in Tanzania is June to September when the weather is cool and dry and wildlife spotting opportunities are at their highest. Go between October and February and temperatures are hot and rain is light. Even though in low season, March to May, heavy rains mean that getting around is a little more challenging, landscapes are lush and green and accommodation and travel is at its cheapest.
