Recently, the whole world is reeling under the great cyber-attack which is called Wannacry. This is a ransomware which encrypts the files of a user and demands money for the decryption key. This attack has hurt over 150 countries in the world with Russia and India being hit the hardest. This attack has been targeted towards the enterprises and common public alike. Many big industries have been hit hard. Hospitals, automobile companies, airlines, railways and other companies have been hit worldwide. Among all the victims, there is one common ting, they all used outdated and unsupported Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 7. If you are using either of these operating systems, you are at risk of cyber crimes against you. Thus, it is highly recommended that you choose Windows 10, the latest operating system from Microsoft and many agencies will help you for Windows 7 to 10 migration.

Windows 7 was a highly popular operating system from Windows which came during 2007. From then, the operating system received many patches and security upgrades which kept it safe against cyber crimes. However, with time, Microsoft brought forward a new operating system with many modern features and a completely new architecture, Windows 10. Windows 10 is more equipped to fight the cyber offences as well. People, however, continued to use Windows 7 because they felt upgrading to Windows 10 might disrupt their business process or their internal software might not work as it was made for Windows 7 or simply the cost of the migration. Hackers took full advantage of the same because with time they were able to find some flaws in the Windows 7 security. Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 7 in 2016, after almost a decade of updates. The operating system became vulnerable to newer threats and this Wannacry ransomware took full advantage of the same.

Even if your machine was not hurt by this attack, there is no guarantee that the next attack will miss it too. As your data and files are in your computer, you will be helpless against this attack. You will either need to pay the attacker or forego your important documents. Even paying them might not help you completely as they might simply refuse to give you the decryption key even after receiving the money and ask for more payments. Considering everything, please upgrade your operating system if you have not upgraded yet.
