A home theater projector is one which is used for viewing movies and for other varied homely entertainment purposes. Liquid Crystal Display also known as LCD is the technology incorporated in a home theater projector. Classification can further be made on the basis of technologies used in a home theater projector such as; Digital Light Processing or DLP and Liquid Crystal on Silicon or LCoS. A projector based on the LCD technology supports 3 RGB colors and consists of three panel LCD display screen. This enables the device to display an image on the screen which is fully colored. Other reasons which make the LCD home theater projector popular are; clear and sharper images, better saturation of color and cost effectiveness.

On the other hand a home theater projector based on DLP technology makes use of a DLP monochrome chip (single) and the coloring is done by the help of a coloring filter wheel which is rotates continuously while the projector is on. The contrast and brightness of the images produced is better and the ones displayed in black are much better.
The projectors based on LCoS technology combines both LCD and DLP projectors. This type is ususally used in projection television and is also termed as micro-display. The LCoS projectors use liquid crystal instead of DLP projector light for projection. The price of the projectors based on this technology is a bit higher than the other two.
