List of hotkeys for Metatrader4
Posted: Jun 21, 2017
Hotkeys are present in almost all modern computer programs, allowing the user to significantly accelerate his work. The MetaTrader 4 trading terminal is not an exception. It contains much more hotkeys than you can guess.
Moving along the price chart using the MT4 terminal hotkeysLet’s start with the most common keys. These are keys with arrows "Up" (?), "Down" (?), "Right" (?), "Left" (?). With their help you can easily navigate the price schedule:
- The "Up" key or the "Left" key moves the chart to the left;
- The "Down" key or the "Right" key moves the chart to the right.
These keys replace the usual scrolling of the mouse wheel, with which most traders move along the chart.
For faster movement, you can use other MT4 terminal hotkeys:
- "Page Up", "Page Down" scroll the price chart with whole pages;
- The "Home" button leads us to the very beginning of the price chart;
- The "End" button moves to the end of the chart.
- Sometimes it becomes necessary to see how a particular currency pair reacted to some fundamental event. The "Enter" key will help.
"Enter" moves to the date specified by the trader.
After pressing "Enter", a separate window appears, in which it is necessary to enter the desired date. After second pressing the "Enter" key, the chart will move to the desired quotes.
Changing the scale of the chartInstead of changing the scale of the chart using the keys on the toolbar, you can use the hotkeys:
- "+" – increasing the scale of the chart;
- "-" – respectively, reducing the scale of the chart.
Each trader, analyzing the chart, draws some levels of support and resistance, technical lines, shapes, etc. To delete unnecessary objects, most traders use the menu that is raised by the right mouse button. However, removing unnecessary objects from the chart can be much easier with just two keys:
- "Del" removes all the objects on the chart selected by the trader;
- "Backspace" removes the last constructed object from the price chart.
If you deleted something accidently and want to get it back, use "Ctrl"+"Z" or "Alt"+"Backspace".
Changing the chart typeAs you know, the MetaTrader 4 terminal by default allows you to use three main types of graphics: bars, Japanese candles, line chart. Each type of graphic has its own keyboard shortcuts:
- "Alt"+"1" displays the bar chart;
- "Alt"+"2" displays the candlestick chart;
- "Alt"+"3" displays the line chart.
Along with the cross, which is traditionally located in the right corner of the window of all Windows programs, you can use the "Esc" key to close the MetaTrader 4 terminal or the next hotkeys combination:
- "Esc" closes the open window;
- "Ctrl"+"W" or "Ctrl"+"F4" closes the chart window.
The buttons located on the toolbar, which open additional tabs, can be successfully replaced by the following shortcuts:
- "Ctrl"+"U" calls the symbols window;
- "Ctrl"+"M" calls the "Market Watch" tab;
- "Ctrl"+"D" opens the "Data Window" tab;
- "Ctrl"+"N" calls the "Navigator" tab;
- "Ctrl"+"T" opens the "Terminal" tab;
- "Ctrl"+"R" opens the "Tester".
Many traders group charts into profiles. To move between them, one should use the following keys combination:
- "Shift"+"F5" moves between profiles.
The authors of MetaTrader 4 did not ignore the functional hotkeys, each of which fulfills its specific task:
- "F1" calls the "Userguide";
- "F2" calls the archive of quotations;
- "F3" opens the window for adding global variables;
- "F4" calls MetaEditor;
- "F6" opens the strategy tester to test a trade advisor attached to the chart;
- "F7" calls the properties of the advisor attached to the chart;
- "F8" calls the window of the chart properties;
- "F9" calls the order opening window;
- "F10" calls the quotes window;
- "F11" unfolds the price chart window into full-screen mode;
- "F12" moves the price chart by one bar ahead. To move back by one bar, use the combination "Shift"+"F12".
So, these are the most useful hotkeys in the Metatrader 4 terminal. Hope, these tips are useful for you and your work with MT4 will be more comfortable. If I missed something interesting, please, write it in the comments
