Ducted Gas Heating: Perth Residents Can Improve Efficiency

Using ducted gas heating systems to heat your home is an excellent option for many homeowners. Forced air systems used for heating and cooling throughout the year are very energy efficient if they are maintained correctly. One of the most overlooked aspects is maintaining the integrity of the ductwork that is used to deliver the treated air. This ductwork could be located inside the walls, ceilings and under the floors. Here are three important considerations for improving your ductwork that will improve the energy efficiency in your home.

1. Losing Energy

If the treated air in your system is blocked or inhibited in any way, it will reduce the effectiveness and efficiency. The heater or air conditioning in your home is working harder to provide heating and cooling. The energy to run your system has already been paid for, and if the treated air cannot circulate correctly, it’s a waste of money. The loss of energy could also be caused by cracks or leaks in your ductwork. If the necessary repairs are made the energy efficiency in your home will be significantly improved.

2. Flooding in the Ducts

When the air is circulated through your ductwork, there may also be water vapour present. When water vapour cools inside your ducts, it may condense and turn into small pools of standing water. Over time, this water will cause corrosion and affect the integrity of your ductwork. This can lead to leaks and a loss of energy efficiency. Another factor to consider is that pools of water can act as a breeding ground for harmful microbes and they can be distributed throughout the home.

3. Installation Problems

There are other reasons that may necessitate some improvements in your ductwork system. It may be the case, which you ductwork wasn’t installed correctly in the first place and that would cause a loss in energy efficiency. In some cases, this could be the result of poor quality work carried out by a non certified technician that has been poorly trained. Another cause could be sub standard equipment being installed that has degraded prematurely; the joints could be loose and cracked. When ductwork becomes compromised, dirt and debris can enter the ducts, causing blockages and a reducing airflow.
