Singapore is one of the top countries when it comes to computer and smart phone penetration. Being a rich country, most people have a computer and most companies rely on computers to run their daily business. Without them, the company can go down and not be able to operate properly leading to loss of productivity and therefore profits that they dearly need in this bad economy.

What are some of the ways that you can counter ransomware then in Singapore.

Ransomware is something that became of an issue in the recent years because of the exposure to internet documents and emails. The hackers of the day have moved from traditionally planting virus that they cant do much with when to those being infected. Other than being an irritation, you could not do much to get out of those who are infected. With the rise of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. This criminals could do what they are doing now, which is to extort money from those who are infected by their ransomware and with this, leading to the fast growth in the spread of ransomware.

So what are some of the best ways to do it

Firstly, the best way to make sure that your staff members and yourself is well trained so that you do not let any other file come into your systems. This makes it easy by identifying emails that look mysterious and weird and those are the ones that should not even have been downloaded in the first place.

Secondly, you should always keep your systems updated with the latest firmware and downloads that are pushed to you from Microsoft. Most of the computers that get into trouble are windows computers so you should and always make sure that your systems are up to date.

Lastly, you should always have anti-ransomware software installed in your computers so that you have the last line of defence. If you do download the ransomware, you have the chance of stopping it if you have the software in place. This helps you to make sure that you do not get yourself into trouble by just having them on your system and not even knowing it.

Remember the cost to restore this systems might cost way more than defending it and this is something that many businessmen would not want to pay because the potential lost is way higher when you have down time and you are not able to function properly as a business.
