Explore Cornwall on a Spectacular Short Break
Posted: Feb 25, 2014
If you choose to stay in one of the many delightful Cornwall cottages, families or groups will be able to explore at leisure. Strike out and experience some of the best countryside in the UK as well as taking in atmospheric towns and delightful bays.
With a group, the need to keep everyone, including young ones, happy, will be high on the priority list. So here are some of the best places in the county to enjoy and hopefully provide a wonderful addition to your holidays.
St Ives
The delightful town of St Ives offers a wonderful opportunity for all the family to experience swathes of golden beaches, cobbled streets full of character and restaurants chockfull of local delicacies. For those with an artistic bent, you will also be able to appreciate the art scene, which creates a natural buzz about the town, given its idyllic setting and stunning natural light. If history and architecture are of priority, then St Ives offers plenty of sites to satisfy as well.
Lizard Peninsula
If open air, rolling countryside and nature are the top three things to enjoy in Cornwall, cottages around the Lizard Peninsula have them in abundance. Groups, such as walkers or families, will be able to enjoy the spectacular views of the coastal scenes as they ramble. Fishing villages offer a look at times gone by, while the Gweek-based Seal Sanctuary gives groups the chance to experience some of the animals that exist on the Lizard - from otters and sea lions to seals. They even have a special seal hospital for rescued and recuperating seals. Coverack
For those considering what to do for a day out, one option is to pop into the former smugglers' haven of Coverack. Used as the setting for the novel Wild Strawberries, Coverack is a typical sleepy hamlet and a typical Cornish beach for young ones to explore.
Sennen Cove
Often overlooked as travellers plough on to Land's End or Penzance, Sennen Cove is everything that sums up bygone Cornwall – cottages dot the landscape, along with delightful sandy beaches and a 19th century-founded lifeboat centre. Sennen Cove offers a wonderful "get away from it all" haven and some of the best surfing spots on the Atlantic seaboard.
Bodmin Moor
This rolling countryside offers walkers and cyclists many opportunities to get out and enjoy it in the raw. However, those with families can also enjoy different aspects of the acclaimed World Heritage site, whether it is exploring the famous Jamaica Inn of Daphne Du Maurier fame; taking a steam engine from Launceston Steam railway; or taking on imaginary forces at Launceston Castle - the opportunities are endless.
Crealy Adventure Park
For young family members, one of the highlights of a stay in one of the cosy Cornwall cottages is a trip to Crealy Adventure Park at Tredinnick. Here, families can go on a number of exciting rides, including The Beast and the Viking Warrior. If a rainy day is in store, young ones can explore the inside of the 45,000 sq ft play area, which includes a host of wonderful attractions, such as aerial glides, rope ladders and mazes to get lost in.
