Pikey Peak at 4065 meter is a tiny mountain placed in the lower Solu Khumbu province. Pikey boasts sweeping panoramas of approximately all of Nepal’s Himalayan range. It’s a calm but popular trek. Sir Edmond Hillary said that the sight of Sagarmatha or Mount Everest from Pikey was his favorite in entire Nepal. Pikey was recently opened as a hiking destination. Pronounced as Pee-Kay, Pikey has 2 peaks, Chawa-Pikey and Goley-Pikey. These named derived from the Sherpa language & refer to divinities of diverse local Sherpa tribes. Pikey peak climbing is well-suited for any skill level of hikers.

Regardless of who’s hiking, Pikey Peak offers a lifetime opportunity to witness Mount Everest & 6 other summits more than 8,000m: Mt. Everest South Summit, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, in the west Annapurna and Manaslu, and in the east the third highest peak in the world Mt. Kanchanjunga. Apart from Everest view trek from here you can also see the Mt. Thamserku, Numbur Himal, Gauri Shankar, and the Langtang Range. Pikey possess awe-inspiring sunrise & sunset sights when weather permits. Apart from the summit, you will also witness Monasteries such as Thupten Chholing where there’re over 500 nuns & Tolu Monastery, the 2nd oldest in Nepal.

Since this area is home of Everest Six-Summits, this trek also provides the chance to witness several Sherpa villages encompassing Mingmar’s home, Damar, where hikers get to experience local culture and tradition in places barely explored by travelers. Damar village is placed on an isolated hillside enclosed by rhododendron, oak, juniper, bamboo, and pine forests alongside rolling mountains. There’re eight Sherpa households enclosed by fields for farming & animals encompassing goats and nak. Throughout the route are several kinds of flora & fauna & diverse species of birds, which your tour guide will tell you about.

This province is ideal for hiking year-round, but its most beautiful throughout March to May for witnessing blossoming rhododendron, wild orchid, magnolia and diverse kinds of junipers. Those who want to hike in December to February will be able to relish the snow & have incredibly clear sights of the summits as this is usually a drier time of the year.

This trek is the best thing you can add into your everest trekking package. The trail drops steeply at first and then levels out all the way down to Shivalaya, which is quite a big village on the river, devastated by the earthquake. The trail descends steadily all the way down to Jiri through small villages and terraced fields.
