To begin with, Adobe, a front runner in the design software segment has recently announced that it is experimenting with AI to design websites and image editing using one of its signature products, Adobe Sensei.

Though Adobe it not planning to expand the AI to others project, it is pretty much serious about using AI in graphic designing. The Sensei will be integrated into Adobe Experience Manager CMS.

The aim of this product is to custom design websites and perform image editing tasks for its users without the help of designers. The brain behind this is the Machine learning and image recognition techniques, which automatically analyze all input details and recommends relevant designs to the user.

Wix, a well-known cloud-based web development company, has already launched its flagship Wix Advanced Design Intelligence (ADI) to automatically recommend and design tailor-made web templates for its users. The AI does this by recording user inputs and preferences and decides on which template will be a better suit. Though it’s not entirely automatic, the team behind ADI says it is almost completely automatic except a few minor functions that requires human supervision. The ADI also has teams of AI specialists dedicated to enabling AI on different layers of website such as photos, layouts, colors etc.

The AI does not restrict itself just to the design aspect of projects, it also offers customized content as well.

Is AI design a flawless alternative?

Though the technology is still in its infancy, it is rapidly emerging as one the breakthrough technologies, where industries are quickly realizing its potential and are figuring out in what better way they can exploit it. The AI is an old technology, it’s new spinoff of Machine Learning and AI doing a designer’s job is not without faults. Companies like Adobe and Wix are faced with new challenges and are coming out with new solutions to overcome the hurdles. With developments still underway, the AI experts are figuring out imperative ways that would make up for its shortfall.

Grid, a startup company which is specialized in offering websites designed by AI, have not emerged as an infallible service provider. The users of Grid have expressed mixed reaction and the reason being is that, at this stage, the AI has certain limitations when it comes to customizing websites for its end users. It offers only a few choices of layouts and color options.

On the other hand, Wix is gaining a competitive advantage by setting up desired websites by just taking your type of business and the name, and gets it up and running in the shortest time; it also tops it up with basic content to help you get started right way. There is no argument of which of these companies is superior, because both has its strengths and are battling with their own service defeciencies.

Giving a straight answer to the question if the AI is flawless. No. It is not, at least as of now.

Will it replace designers?

Though AIs designing websites may sound formidable, web designers and developers and confident that their jobs are not at stake at this stage. Designers argue that the new AI technology cannot completely replace designers, and stress that there are some aspects of designing, something inimitable, which can be only be done with human intelligence.

Without a doubt, AI is bring several design companies into its fold, restructuring and transfroming them, however, designers believe that the algorithm-driven design is unlikely to get in par with designers due to the thorough interaction process and critical reasoning.
