The Cayman Islands are famous for offering some of the best diving destinations in the world. Crystal clear waters in striking shades of blue slosh upon the shores of this trio of tropical isles, which includes Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. The popular cruise port of Grand Cayman is the largest and most Americanized of the three islands. So, if you are you planning a day trip to Grand Cayman while vacationing in the Caribbean Islands, then there are plentiful of activities that you can be part of.

The first recommended thing to do in Grand Cayman is to visit the best scuba destinations in Caymans. Known for beautiful beaches, stunning weather and amazing seascapes, the Cayman Islands have something to offer even the most discerning visitor. While some are content with soaking up the rays along beautiful Seven Mile Beach, others are seeking out something a little more thrilling. Just beneath the surface of Cayman's coast lie some of the most amazing reef formations in the Caribbean which can best be explored by scuba diving. The three Cayman Islands are home to so many tunnels and are the favorite activity amongst the new and returning divers alike.

  • BIG TUNNELS – Located just minutes away from Seven Mile Beach, Big Tunnels is among the best dives on Grand Cayman. This mammoth swim-through is decorated with rope sponges and black coral, yet it is a site not to be missed. Take a cavernous swim-through with rope sponges and you will come across sea whips protruding from the porous walls. Be sure to try diving through this tunnel to have an amazing experience in Caymans. Check for water current prior diving this site as water moves quickly through the area.
  • TRINITY CAVES – Made famous by the movie "The Firm," this dive site is the most requested of all sites on Grand Cayman. Near north west point and not far from Cemetery Beach, it is a long, wide tunnel named for its three main tunnels. Parallel tunnels are smaller, often inhabited by schooling snappers and spotted lobsters. On the deep side of Trinity Caves lies a detached pinnacle covered in gorgonians and sponges. Be careful while swimming here as the delicate corals are easily damaged by fin kicks.
  • EDEN ROCK – Just south of the Capitol George Town, Eden Rock and Devils Grotto are the most popular shore dive sites amongst the locals and tourists alike. This "grotto" system is created by years of tidal flow into the shallow bay of George Town harbor. This shallow reef is home to some of the most picturesque tunnels found anywhere in the Caribbean. During the summer months, millions of dwarf herring known as silversides fill these tunnels. Plan your dive for a maximum of 50 feet allowing for ample exploration time.
  • RON's WALL – Ron's Wall is one of Grand Cayman's lesser known tunnel sites. The site is home to one of the most spectacular swim through on the island. Dropping down to 65 feet, this large tunnel will guide you gently out onto the wall after you have found the entrance. Take time to check out the different hiding places here. This habitat is a favorite hiding ground for spiny lobsters and channel clinging crabs. Watch your depth as you exit this tunnel as the water here feels deceptively shallow.
  • THE MAZE – East End is home to many great dive sites. Hence, the Maze in Caymans is no exception. Large crevasses in the wall weave in and out forming a labyrinth of overhanging ledges and narrow alleyways. These narrow, deep cracks form passageways that divers navigate while watching for the usual suspects hiding in the darker areas. Due to its location at the south east corner, diving at Maze is not necessarily available 365 days of the year. Hence, before making the booking or prior setting out, check with your service provider.

After trying scuba diving at all or any of the tunnels in the best scuba destinations in Caymans, you can take a leisurely stroll on the beach. If you want to try local cuisine, look for a restaurant that serves Conch Fritters. While you pay an ear to the enthralling tales of the locals, it will be time for you to board the vessel and bid goodbye to Grand Caymans.
