You have spent a bag full of $$ on your new hair extensions, but what you have found is a weave guilty of misbehaving. Even if you have brought the costliest of the weave, still there are possibilities that you might experience shedding of the hair extensions. Don’t worry! There are many reasons for the shed, but there are also easy ways to prevent it.

Sealing the Wefts

If the weft is cut to different styles, than shedding can occur. You can prevent this by using a premium weft sealer before installing the extensions. Fabric glues and other similar alternatives also work, but they do not offer lasting results. They may not withstand high exposure to oil, water, and heat. Avoid going for any new cuts and if you have to go for it, then ask your stylist to seal it properly where the new style was cut. Keep the styling minimal to prevent extreme hair shedding. The less you do, the better it is!

Proper Combing and Brushing

Proper brushing of your hair extensions is essential. Excessive combing of the weaves can loosen the weft and result in the shedding of the hair. You should brush the extensions when they are wet and hold them half way to ensure that there is no heavy shedding. Also, develop a habit of brushing the hair from the bottommost section. Gentle stroke from bottom to top is a simple and effective way to prevent hair shedding.

Proper Moisturizing

Moisturizing the weaves with natural products is essential to prevent shedding. Select appropriate shampoo and conditioner, which must be used once in a week and in a distributed manner. You can prevent the problem of shedding hair extensions to a great extent by being gentle on your hair and pampering them like a small baby. The more you care, the healthier and better your hair extensions will be!

Avoid Intense Heat or Wind Attack

To avoid the shed from occurring frequently, make sure that you do not bring the extensions into direct contact to hot hair drying blowers or heavy wind attacks. Using a hot hair dry blower for drying the extensions is unhealthy and dry them. Excessive use of artificial means of drying the extensions also results in loosening of the weaves, which may result in the hefty shedding of your weaves. Using curling equipment, flat irons, and heating tools, also lead to damaging of the extensions and hence breakage and shedding. If you wish a new style, then it is recommended to get it done from an expert stylist or one who has offered you with these extensions.

Wrapping it to the Fullest

Wrapping your hair with a silk scarf during the night is the best way to prevent shedding of hair while you are sleeping. It is because wrapping hair prevents them from drying, breaking, and tangling while you sleep. However, make sure that you don’t tie them too hard or tight as this can also lead to shedding. If your hair extensions are long, then you can go for another silk scarf for an added protection. If you are not wrapping your hair, then don’t play with them as this result in tangling of the hair, which further damages them.

A Bonus Tip!

When sealing your hair extensions, make sure to use a sealant, which is flexible, lasting, and do not leave behind any clumpy residue. Also, applying the sealant on both the sides of the weft imparts more strength to the extensions and can minimize the shedding to a great extent.
