Dubai is certainly an overachiever with its long list of past and present world records and accomplishments. The irony of this destination is that it actually holds a world record for being the city with the most world records, so it’s certainly a fascinating destination to visit. Traveasy have cheap flights to Dubai from UK, taking you to the heart of the UAE’s world record city.

The following are examples of some of Dubai’s most interesting achievements.

World’s Tallest Hotel

The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai has been named as the world’s tallest hotel by Guinness World Records, standing at a whopping 1,165 ft. It’s a 76 storey high twin-tower skyscraper featuring a hotel with 1,608 rooms and 77 floors. The buildings comprise of a banquet hall, conference hall, retail outlets, food and beverage outlets, rooftop bars, a swimming pool, gymnasium and spa. The hotel’s unique and jagged design was inspired by a palm tree trunk.

World’s Largest Shopping Mall

The Dubai Mall is dubbed as the world’s largest shopping mall in terms of floor space. It once also held the world record for the largest number of stores until a bigger mall was built in Asia, but Dubai are currently in the process of building an even bigger mall to claim back their title. The Dubai Mall is home to over 1,200 stores plus a SEGA game centre, a large aquarium, cinema screens and 120 eateries, so entertainment comes in leaps and bounds here. Largest Fireworks Display

When Dubai welcomed in the new year of 2014 it celebrated with a loud bang - in fact the world’s largest display of loud bangs. The glittering 360-degree fireworks display lasted around 6 minutes and extended across the island of Palm Jumeirah – it was even visible from space! The New Year’s Eve display saw over 400,000 fireworks at a rate of around 80,000 per minute. It took over 10 months to plan and 5,000 hours of work were put in.

Longest Graffiti Scroll

The Rehlatna graffiti wall broke the Guinness World Record in November 2014 and was titled as the Longest Graffiti Scroll which measured 2.2454km, just under one and a half miles. 150 talented graffiti artists were brought together to design and create this art project and its name means "our journey" in Arabic. The project represents the UAE’s achievements, colourful culture and rich history and includes artwork of the UAE’s famous landmarks and Arabic calligraphy.

Tallest Structure

The 7 star Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building standing at more than 2,700 ft. You may recognize the tower from the film Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol where Tom Cruise dangled 1,700 off the ground, so you’ll feel a bit star struck if you see it in real life. Not only is the Burj Khalifa the tallest building in the world, it’s also the world’s tallest free-standing structure and it has the highest outdoor observation deck in the world.
