It goes without saying that children are one of the most important pillars of a country’s future. That’s why child empowerment in India is a very crucial consideration when it comes to development and growth. In order to facilitate the same, a nationwide movement called Feed the Future Now has been initiated. This seminal movement aims at encouraging everyone to commit to the cause of a ‘Nourished India, Educated India’ by feeding the children who are deprived of their right to food. This campaign is benefitting over 1.6 million children presently by way of feeding them with healthy meals. It aims at feeding the future – our children – by taking this count to 5 billion by 2020.

There are several volunteering opportunities for us to support the movement and ensure child empowerment in India. Here’s why Feed the Future Now campaign deserves attention:

1. One persistent problem: Hunger

India has proved its advancement in so many spheres. According to India FoodBanking Network, the food grain production has increased almost two times in India in the past two decades. Although India has made phenomenal economic and industrial growth and it produces sufficient food to feed its population, it is unable to fulfil the right to food to a large number of people, especially women and children. So it is very important that events dedicated especially to eradicate hunger are organised in a more widespread manner.

2. Endangered future

India is home to the largest undernourished population in the world. You would be shocked to know that 3,000 children in India die everyday from poor diet related illness. If we do not focus on child empowerment in India today, it is very difficult to have the future of our dreams. Feeding the children with right food is important because it is not only going to improve their personal growth but also positively impact the way they contribute to country’s future. We need to feed the future.

3. Many of those who get the food don’t value it

While a huge percentage of the global population is fighting undernourishment, it is estimated that nearly one-third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year gets lost or wasted. About 40% of the fruits and vegetables and 30% of cereals that are produced are lost because of improper supply chain management. So the food either doesn’t reach the consumer markets or if it does, it is beyond the affordability of these people. Feed the Future Now helps children get their right to food by providing them nutritious and delicious mid-day meals in schools. The campaign calls out for helping hands from across the country. Some easy ways to support the cause are by donating to charity, starting a fundraising campaign, and spreading the word.

4. Root cause-root solution

Most of the problems in India are either because of poverty or uneducated population which itself is mostly due to poverty. If the capable ones come together and pledge to help the helpless in any possible way, the scenario will definitely improve. Hence, this mission of encouraging students to come to school by providing them mid-day meals as an incentive, is so significant. Because it targets the root problem and brings up the root solution to all problems. So let’s feed the children today and gift them a better and brighter future.

5. Every parent wants their children to be successful

No matter what their financial condition is, all parents wish that their children achieve success in life. If you are a parent, you can understand the feeling very well and if not, you can totally relate to all the efforts that your parents put in, to help you become what you are today. Feed the Future Now is a movement that along with fulfilling children’s dreams also helps in fulfilling the dreams of their parents. One out of every four children in India is undernourished. This means that we should pull together all our forces to ensure that we rescue that child and help him lead a healthy life.

Only dreaming about advanced India won’t do. We need to act in the favour of this dream and the least we can do is make a small contribution. If you want a better and brighter future, support Feed The Future Now movement now.
