Krishnapuram Palace in Alleppey
Posted: Aug 22, 2017
The Krishnapuram Palace is an uncommon example of the Kerala style of design, finish with gabled rooftops, limit hallways and dormer windows. Living arrangement of the leaders of Kayamkulam Kingdom, the age of the castle is obscure.
Revamped some time in the eighteenth century, the castle is today a secured landmark under the Archeology Department. As of late it has been again redesigned by the logical strategies recommended for the security of legacy structures.
Today the royal residence is an archeological historical center, and the most interesting show here is the 49 sq.m - Gajendra Moksham
- the biggest single band of wall painting so far found in Kerala. Truly, the salvation (Moksha) of the elephant ruler (Gajendra), the subject of the wall painting is fanciful and delineates an elephant saluting Lord Vishnu in commitment while alternate divine beings, goddesses and holy people look on. It is said that Lord Vishnu was the family divinity of the Kayamkulam rajas. This wall painting was set at the passageway to the royal residence from the lake to empower the rajas to revere the god after their shower.
Different attractions here are the delightfully arranged garden in the royal residence compound where you have an assortment of vegetation regular of Kerala, and a recently raised Buddha mandapam, where an as of late recouped statue of the Buddha is housed. Different accumulations at the historical center incorporate uncommon antique bronze models and sketches.
Kayamkulam sword (kayamkulam vaal) displayed here is also a famous relic. The double edged sword was a fond weapon of erstwhile local chieftains, a few centuries ago.
Lord Vishnu reaches in response to Gajendra, caught by the crocodile. Garuda, the vehicle of Vishnu (the bird-beast being in the picture) kills the croc. Thus Gajendra is rescued. The incident is watched by saints, animals and others.
A palace of local chieftains that existed here was demolished and a miniature replica of Travancore Palace itself was built during the 18th century.
The mural is at the ground floor toward the entrance to the pond, so that the king could pray to Lord Vishnu after taking bath.
