Mountains: Hajar Mountains

From the centre of Ras Al Khaimah, you can take memorable side trips into incredible surrounding mountains, including adventurous hikes and group tours, where you can rock climb sheer cliff faces and abseil down breathtaking mountain sides. Ras Al Khaimah also has a 30 kilometre mountain road, the Jabel Al Jais Mountain Road, that can be travelled easily by car, offering spectacular views and taking visitors – comfortably – past some breathtaking scenery. Make sure you stop off at the Dhayah Fort, a fort at the foot of the mountains, thought to date back as far as the third millennium BC, and the only surviving hilltop fort in the United Arab Emirates.

Deserts: Ras Al Khaimah Desert

Take a side excursion into the Ras Al Khaimah desert, for adventure, Arabian style, and travel through golden sandy deserts that have been at the centre of Middle Eastern culture for centuries. Take a leisurely camel ride or a more adventurous bike tour across Ras Al Khaimah’s surrounding deserts and you will pass some breathtaking scenery. Alternatively, stay a few days at the Al Wadi Desert, Ras Al Khaimah, a Ritz-Carlton Partner Hotel, and surround yourself with golden Arabian deserts, dine at restaurants next to waterholes that attract a range of wildlife, and relax in rooftop bars overlooking incredible surrounding natural landscapes.

Emirate: Ras Al Khaimah

In the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah you could explore its long and rich history, which dates back to the third century BC, in the old Jazirat Al Hamra village, or in its National Museum, set in the palace of the al Qawasim family, who ruled here in the 18th century. Alternatively, to immerse yourself in current day Middle Eastern life, you could head to the restaurants and walkways in downtown Ras Al Khaimah, that come alive at night with local residents and a host of festivities. In the centre of Ras Al Khaimah, you will also find decadent palaces and beautiful mosques to explore, including the Sheikh Zayed Mosque that stands majestically above the Al Qawasim Corniche, and lights up at night like a Christmas tree.
