The Scope of the Profession in India:
The admission process in Indian medical schools is not only competitive, but complex too and sometime ambiguous, especially when you score lower in the entrance examinations. If we look at WHO guidelines, it recommends 10 doctors for 10,000 people. Even if we include the inactive doctors, there might seem to be a small gap of 2.6 doctors per 10,000 people in India. However, if we look at our population that comes to a stunning shortage of 3.3 lakh doctors on paper ignoring the reality. China has almost the double the ratio of doctors to people to India and most of the developed countries have a ratio greater than 20 per 10,000 doctors. India produces 50,000 doctors through approximately 370 medical colleges per year, but our population growth is annually 1.23% (LAST MEASURED AT 2014). So year after year, the gap between the supply and demand of medicine professional is increasing enormously. The prospects for expanding Indian education capacity, however, appear to be constrained by strict government policies.
Why Study MBBS in Philippines:The additional requirement of doctors are partially fulfilled by the MBBS passouts from abroad for long time, but over the past few years there has been an average increase of about 10-15 per cent in the number of students going abroad for studying medicine. The study abroad is playing an alternative way-out for the Indian medicine aspirants. High admission constraints in Indian medical schools (as the seats are limited and 50% of the seats are with private medical colleges) is a major factor for choosing the study of medicine from abroad among the 10+2 passouts of different boards in India. More than one million students take the medical entrance each year. With the capitation fee and the volatile admission process in Indian private colleges, comparatively admissions to abroad medical schools are much more candid and cost effective. And our personal experience says that cost is never a constraint for parents as far as medical study is concerned. For some families studying in a medical school abroad is a mark of social strata.
