Some homeowners or renters are probably at their wit’s end to find a place to stick their combo washer and dryer. The bathroom, kitchen and bedrooms are all ruled out, and there’s no laundry room available. But don’t let the space blues get you down. Let’s get creative with options to place your stackable washer and dryer.

Hallways

For people who live in condos or small homes, a hallway can be the answer to your washer space blues. Halls are generally situated in the center of the home, which puts your laundry in equal range of the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen. This is a great option if you’re single or in a relationship without children. However, having laundry on the hall floor can also clog up an important passageway. If you have kids or more than two people to your home, this can make getting around inconvenient.

Mudrooms

Putting combo washer dryer units in a mudroom is a preferred choice for a number of home designers. Since mudrooms are generally where you pull off dirty boots, shoes, socks and other garments, you can instantly throw dirty clothes into the washer without taking another step. Additionally, mudrooms are close to the main hub of the home but not so close that the sounds of the washer are too disruptive. On the other hand, mudrooms that are close to the front door may not be a good place for washers, especially if you entertain guests frequently. The moment a person opens the door, they’ll be greeted by your dirty laundry. You’ll likely have to hide your laundry away in advance of company, which can be tedious.

Garages

If your home has a garage, consider putting your combo washer and dryer in there. It solves the mudroom problem by housing your laundry in a place where few guests are likely to enter. Conversely, garages generally don’t have indoor heaters or air conditioners, so doing your laundry in a garage may not be comfortable in times of extreme hot or cold. Also, garages can be messy. If you plan to have your washer in a garage make sure the path to the washer and dryer is clean.

As you can see, there are some off beat locations you can place your combo washer and dryer, with each spot offering its share of pros and cons. So consider which is the best place to do your laundry without disrupting your home life. Remember, be creative! The eventual parking spot for your stackable washer may surprise you.
