TurboTax is American tax preparation software in the US, which is available for both federal and state income tax returns. While using this software, one may find several issues and one of them is error in e-filing transmission. Before I explain the steps to troubleshoot, let me tell what a TurboTax e-filing transmission issue actually is?

An e-file transmission error is when your return doesn’t go through after clicking Transmit Returns now. It is a technical error caused due to a problem with your internet connection or computer system. If you see your return status as pending or rejected, then you don’t have a transmission issue as your return made it to TurboTax electronic filing centre or the IRS/state agency.

For troubleshooting this error, make sure the following:

Avoid using a wireless connection

It is recommended to e-file your return over a wired broadband connection. If you don’t have the same, open a new web browser window or tab and try opening a website you haven’t visited before. If you cannot access that website, restart your wireless router and try again.

If nothing works in your favor, then turn off your computer system, router and your modem, in the same sequence as listed. After two minutes, turn your modem back on and after a minute switch on your router, and then finally your computer system. This will resolve the issue.

Reset your modem and router

Try to reset your modem and router (if any). This could solve the problem instantly where the program stops running during e-filing. Follow these steps:

  • Turn off your computer system along with any other device connected to your modem
  • Turn off or unplug the modem
  • Now, wait for 1 minute and turn back the modem on
  • Wait until the light for ready or online flickers
  • Now, plug in your router and wait until the router detects the network
  • Restart your computer system and try e-filing again

However, if you still facing this issue, then contact TurboTax customer support team and get the issue resolved. Hope the information was useful!
