This is particularly true of Menorca, where fiestas (traditional festivals) are a spectacle of music, colour, action and excitement. Coinciding your Menorca villa holidays with one of these many fiestas will ensure it is even more unforgettable. The period of festivities around the island depends on each town’s patron saint, and these fiestas are usually scheduled in a series from the months of June to September—although there are smatterings of other celebrations at other times of the year. Typically, in Menorcan celebrations, the island’s own breed of horse is the focal point: these magnificent horses are paraded down the streets bedecked with ribbons and rosettes, while their riders are equally as impressively garbed. There is plenty of eating and drinking—the ‘poison of choice’ is the gin-and-lemon cocktail called Pomada—as well as street dancing, fireworks, games, music concerts, and competitions. The fiestas are fun for all ages so are an excellent way to keep children happy.

Commune With Nature

When you spend time on Menorca, villa holidays are the best way to help you relax, unwind and reinvigorate - yet surprisingly, you can even take that level of relaxation higher. The island has more than two hundred kilometres of coastline—and most of that consists of pristine, unspoiled and absolutely stunning beaches. In fact, as far as numbers are concerned, the island has even more beaches than if you combine those of Ibiza and Majorca. What’s more, each of these beaches has its own ‘personality’. There are a great number of tiny, secluded beaches and hidden coves that are accessible only by sea, so organise a trip and you’ll be enjoying the seclusion and solitude in no time.

Delve into history

The island's colourful history is legendary. There are countless shipwrecks off the coast of the island, for example, and many churches, medieval fortresses and castles to explore. One of the most interesting sites to check out in the island is a 19th century fortress by the entrance of the famed Mao Harbour—the La Mola. If you have no idea which places you want to visit, join a Jeep safari (there are a number of companies offering such a service) and take a tour around the island – you'll even get to visit places normally not accessible to the public.
