Microsoft Completely End of Mainstream Support on Office for Mac 2011

Microsoft has announced in a support document that the Office for Mac 2011 will not be supported under MacOS 10.13 High Sierra, as scheduled almost seven years later than the software suite was first released. It does not mean that the software will not work, but hint at this.

Well, the Microsoft support team says, 2011 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, will no longer get a feature or security updates as of October 10, 2017. Any type of paid or free technical support from Microsoft has also ended indefinitely.

• Office 2016 for Mac

Microsoft Lync for Mac 2011 still has an extended support period through October 9, 2018, for any possible security updates.

The company clearly said that versions 15.34 and earlier are not supported, and the users may not be able to launch the apps. For users, it’s advised to update to 15.35 or later, but even that’s no assurance.

MacWorld has noted that Mac users of Microsoft Office get second-class service from the company, offered only five years of security updates instead of the ten years given to Windows users, alongside often long-delayed porting of new features.

Moreover, Microsoft recommends users upgrade to Office 2016 for Mac, which is fully supported on MacOS High Sierra. OS X 10.10 or later is required.
